What exactly is coach of the year supposed to be? The best coach? The coach that did the most with the least? The most improved coach? If it’s supposed to be the best coach then it’s between Hurley and Pitino. Though Pitino underperformed preseason expectations and Hurley outperformed. Therefore it should go to Hurley. Not sure how anyone else is even in consideration.

.-.
1) Kevin Willard
2) Shaheen Holloway
3) Chris Holtzmann

I am setting that based on how they exceeded expectations and the difficulty of the job relative to results. Willard had to bust his sazz to put that roster together in the last second.

Hurley and Pitino could get it as they both have done an excellent job so far, but I guess they are a victim of their own success and the fact their teams were expected to be top tier.

Kevin Willard. Hurley and Pitino were supposed to finish 1 and 2, they breezed to 1 and 2

I get that Seton Hall was supposed to be a bottom feeder and now they’re 4th, but should .500 and being on the bubble be accepted as good enough to be in COY conversations? I don’t think so

I’d go Willard 1, Hurley 2, Pitino 3

I went with Holtmann. That was a Herculean task. Willard surprised a lot of people, including myself. Dont expect much out of them in the tourney- either tourney. Last night's game, he said at the half- we have no size. I think his team over-performed. People still want to go to Nova. Ain't nobody trying to play for DePaul. Remarkable.

Really nobody but since it has to be somebody it’s Holtman.
Because the Conference votes before the BET, it can be noted that Holtman went undefeated against Central time zone competition.

There isn’t a team this year that came from the shadows to the top like SJU last year or Marquette in ‘23. Hurley frankly and remarkably has performed to almost exact expectation (currently ranked the same as preseason). Pitino has been overall disappointing.

By default, I guess Willard but I voted Sha because I think Seton Hall has had a greater relative jump in expectations and I also like him more I guess. Hard to gauge when you only have 3 tourney teams

I think one factor for voting for COY is the amount of NIL money available for a team vs. the end results. My vote goes to Holloway.

Holtman. DePaul might get a first round by in the conference tournament. Imagine that. I watched their game yesterday at Marquette and DePaul actually had fans there. I never knew they had fans. They should be in the NIT this year. I will be rooting for them.

Explain to me how Hurley isn't the best coach in the league?

Record in conference
Recruiting
Transfer Portal use
Player development
In game coaching/XOs

A guy like Willard gets an award because he got more from a recently average program? I say nope. I say it's a great step for Nova and a great step towards maybe someday being COTY but Hurley had the best season of any coach in the league without question.

Cooley. The concern he has for other teams attendance is unparalleled

.-.
Holtmann. He's won as many games in the big east this year as DePaul has won in the last 3 years.
Willard. Nova looks better than they have since 2right left, still work to do though
Holloway. Nobody thought Seton hall would do anything this year and had them on the cusp of the ncaa tournament.

I put Pitino, even though I dislike him, because I thought he did a very good job getting 11 newcomers onto the same page.

Hurley only gets 26% of the vote from his own fanbase?!

Spoiled indeed.
What's the point of holding a poll if everyone just votes Hurley?

The absolute obvious choice is Willard - guy took a proud program that bottomed out, pulled a roster together with scotch tape in his first year, and came in third and got them back to the tourney.

I'm not awarding a coach for a losing record (Holtman), I don't care the situation.

I voted Willard but as many have pointed out the two best coaches are obviously Dan and Papa Pitino.

At this point the only way either win it is if, what, they go 20-0?

If you're going to disagree, which is fine, at least put your thoughts on who and why.
I voted for Hurley.

Navigating the waters of transfers AND recruiting top players. Nailing his targets.

Mastering his motivational skills and finding ways for the Huskies to win each night, knowing he doesn't have an alpha dog who leads the team in scoring each night.

His team is beating the best. His BE brethren ate up their cupcakes and now each other.
