Well, these guys have an opinion:

The Outcome
Of the 2,245 colleges analyzed, 481 received a grade, with 386 of those also receiving a numerical ranking. The top ranked college was University of Connecticut.

I didn't look but I feel comfortable assuming that we top the woman's list as well.

The criteria of this survey are questionable to say the least. How is Duke behind Florida? How are we ahead of Duke?(and I hate Duke) Because we always win the championship game when we get to it?

Ah, yeah.

Wait, then why do they only give Duke 3 Final Fours?

Answer: apparently they didn't include last year. So I was right!

But yeah, as everyone has pointed out, this thing is strange for a lot of reasons. Why are people even linking to it? Who found it?

The link will take you the methodology. I would guess that this years NC isn't included.

As a diehard UConn fan, I don't think we are the best men's basketball program. I do, however, think we are in the top 5. I would say my top 5 in order would be UCLA (even though they have 1 title in the past 40 years), Kentucky, Duke, UNC, UConn. Now if we're talking about the best men's basketball program of the last 20 years, we are definitely #1.

If we're talking all-time, I'm not sure there's a very good argument for us over Kansas.

We are by far a better program than Kansas. They always get top recruits and yet still have less championships than us.

I'm not sure how them getting better players helps your argument that we're the better program. They just have a much longer history of success, even if they've lost in the FF a fair number of times.

They've played in 9 championship games. We've played in 4. No.

My point is if they get better players, which they do, then they should win more than us. They don't. It's becoming a recurring theme for Kansas to lose in the first two rounds of the tournament. IMO, them and Syracuse are the most overrated programs ever. Both are praised and both rarely win in March.

First, let me point out (again) Kansas has made 9 NC games. UConn has made 4. Kansas has lost 3 NC games by one possession, 2 by one point.
Overall:
Kansas NCAA appearances: 43
Kansas NCAA record: 96-42
Average wins: 2.232
Kansas Final Fours: 14
Kansas NC record: 3-6
UConn NCAA appearances: 32
UConn NCAA record: 58-29
Average wins: 1.182
UConn Final Fours: 5
UConn NC record: 4-0

Modern Era:
Knasas NCAA appearances: 29
Kansas NCAA record: 74-27
Average wins: 2.466
Kansas Final Fours: 8
Kansas NC record: 2-3
UConn NCAA appearances: 19
UConn NCAA record: 54-15
Average wins: 2.842
UConn Final Fours: 5
UConn NC record: 4-0

Those damn facts got in the way, sorry.

Kansas gets a demerit for losing to the friggin' Fruit though. Hopefully the NCAA will take care of that one though and properly vacate that one from the scandalous t-shirt factory over there in upstate New York.

This site LOVES UConn. Same site has UConn athletics as #4 in the country: https://colleges.niche.com/rankings/best-athletics/. And for giggles, guess who slides in at #57 for best football program: https://colleges.niche.com/rankings/best-college-football-programs/
Yeah football is kind of dicey but here are the numbers:

Active NFL Players 20
Average Home Football Attendance 30,932
BCS Appearances 1
BCS Wins 0
Football NCAA Championship Score 0
Student Surveys on Athletics 3.9 out of 5 281
Total NFL Hall Of Fame Players 0
Total NFL Players 45
Total NFL Pro Bowl Players 0

The problems are old attendance data and a over reliance on the student survey. Still, I'm not complaining.

The thing with Kansas is that they spent decades winning in a league that gave not one hoot about basketball. And for most of those years they got the Big 8 bid just about every year in an era when 1. Only 1 bid went per league, and 2. The NIT was considered at least as big a deal as winning the NCAA. It's really hard for many people to get that, but it had a better venue, better field and it wasn't unheard of for teams to take an NIT bid over an NCAA one especially in ghe 50s and 60s.
