Theyre overall win total of that tournament was 33 points. Thats 3 points more than what Uconn beat a really good Illinois team in the elite 8. The national title game was against Texas Tech ! Perhaps the saddest article ive ever read. Nobody outside of Virginia even remembers they won a title and no one remembers who they played.Team was very good but man did they get lucky A LOT.
71-56 W vs 16-seed Gardner Webb (UVA was LOSING at halftime. Again!)
53-49 W vs 12-seed Oregon in S16 (Oregon was winning by 3 with 5 minutes to go)
80-75 W in OT vs 3-seed Purdue (UVA missed FT which lead to that tip into the backcourt, then halfcourt pass to Diakite to tie the game at the buzzer)
63-62 W over 5-seed Auburn (should have lost, again, if not for that awful foul with 0.6 seconds left)
85-77 W in OT over 3-seed TTU (had to make a 3 pointer with 10 seconds left to send it to OT)
Quite literally the luckiest team in tournament history.
It’s not even close…. UCONN has 2 Titles to there 1. Has won 12 straight tournament games! Beaten every team by a minimum of 13 points! It’s the most dominant 2 year post season run since the 70’s , better than Florida or Duke! They have 1 loss outside of their conference and it was a road game at #1 Kansas and their 2 lottery picks were injured and 1 didn’t play and nearly won.I don't know if anyone has seen this, but my buddy just texted me the link. Maybe not even worth a thread because of how outrageous of a claim this is, but nonetheless... have at it.
Virginia men’s basketball versus Connecticut — who had the better two-year run?
P.S. Yes, they are referring to the 2 year run that in "year 1" they were the first ever team to lose to a 16 seed in the NCAA tournament
Haha nada .. a shoutout for the GIF

I don't remember the specifics but the Arizona team that won in 97 I think had all six games go down to the wire, every one of them a coin flip. Would give that Virginia team a run for luckiest of all time.Team was very good but man did they get lucky A LOT.
