Too lazy to look stats up but I would bet that his good games espec conference games ocurred in Ames Iowa. I'm sure he is a fine player but if we do our job we will win--no doubt about it.:)

some of his best games have been away from ames:

triple double 10 pts 18 rbs 10 asts @ Tex A&M
and @ mizzou 20 pts. 6 rbs 9 asts

Dont underestimate Royce the slightest bit. He will have some plays in the game where you will be amazed.. Whether it be a rocketball pass between 2 defenders, or a monster dunk in traffic..

I just will predict that after the game you will be very impressed with Royce whether the Cyclones win or lose.

I'm already very impressed with him. He may well be the best all-around player on the floor on Thursday night (he probably is at this point, but I may end up hanged for saying so, so I will just give it a "may be"). I'm putting my hope that our HOF coach will come up with something and our team will play better defense than they have played all year.

interesting thinking back to our run last year, who was the best post player we crossed paths with? Derrick Williams hands down. Only reason he was negated was because of foul trouble. This Royce kid is no where near the level of derrick williams, for instance royce shoots horribly from the line and isn't as cerebral. Bottom line, who ever guards him needs to bring it.

I don't know if he will be "all that and a bag of chips" when we play... who knows. But I do know he is pretty good.

Here is a highlight video from our conference games. I know these are highlights. I get that. All that said, there are some clips of what he can do... Not to mention the fact that after watching this vid you will KNOW why he only has 13 ppg. He doesn't have to get more.

Keep in mind, these highlights are from conference games only... he's not doing that against chopped liver. Anyway, number 30 is Royce.

I'm thinking if ISU was to get up early UConn will do the "hack a White" technique that many teams decided to do to us this year...

Here's to hoping that Royce can make those free throws.. (50% free throw shooter)

I think that roscoe has to have this responsibility at least initially. Not only would it be better for Drummond to be in the post rather than guarding the ball handler, he is much more likely to pick up silly fouls and have to sit out the entire half if he is covering white. If roscoe isn't doing a good job we can always switch to Drummond, but at least give him a shot and let drumming dunk on people.

I feel like whenever the question is "Who guards Player X?" the answer is almost always Roscoe. That's why it's so important that he's been playing his best ball over the last month or so

I don't know why some of you are saying "we need Drummond under the basket, so let's put Roscoe on White". I don't think anybody on Iowa State plays under the basket. So unless we're going zone, or Drummond isn't planning on guarding anyone, there's no way to have him there.

In college basketball, not every team plays with a traditional big man. We're one of the teams that does, and are one of the few that tries to get away with playing two traditional big men. That's why this game is such a matchup challenge.

I think this is a fair point. There will be more of an emphasis on defending the 3 point line and getting the resulting long rebounds. So having Drummond camped out under the basket may not be as important as it usually is.

Hell, I think that is the right strategy now...a couple of us said so in the beginning of this thread. Unfortunately for UConn, we are and have long been a team that voids fouling. We give up a lot of easy layups and go for blocks, rather than just sending people into the band (not that it would be easy with Royce). Given enough depth, I think we need to get in to bonus early so we can foul this guy every time he touches the ball.

Look, UConn is a very good team who happens to be peaking at the wrong time for Iowa State. I could see a close game either way and I could see a blow out either way. It's an 8/9 game. Anything could happen.

But give Iowa State a tiny bit of credit. Iowa State is 4-5 against the Sargarin top 25 this year. You are 1-6.

It's not like this will be Iowa State's first good team they've played. They went toe to toe with Kansas and Missouri twice. They beat Baylor.

Will Royce be successful on Thursday? Who knows? But he has been successful all year long.

I'm not worried about Royce as much as you want. Royce is a very good player, and maybe one day will be great. However, he isn't ISU's biggest threat to UConn.

The four guys standing around the 3 point line are much scarier.

I would defend Royce one-on-one all night and stay on the shooters all night. If this means Royce puts up 30+ I'm OK with that, as long as UConn sticks with the three point shooters. Royce dunking in traffic, as long as it's not an "and-one" is much better than having ISU make an open 3 pointer.

I have enough faith that Drummond/Roscoe/Oriakhi will at least bother Royce's forays into the paint.

Even on the dribble hand-off, I would rather give up the occassional free dunk to Royce than an open three for your shooter.

Jim Calhoun isn't a coach that is going to resort to a gimmick, he's going to put his foot in his players asses and demand that they defend better, not some "hack a Royce" nonsense.

Completely agree. He cannot hurt us by himself. . Its the 3 point shooting that could. Guard him alone and let him take more shots instead of passing it back to the shooters.

You may think that but it's been quite the strategy for some teams. I know Ok St did it to us and he went 2-4 at the end of the game. A lot of the time Royce may come out in those situations at the end of the game.

I'm getting to the point I get to every year where my reaction to every mention of the guy on the other team that's supposedly going to kill UConn is "Who give a ****?" Last year it was the kid who was going to shut down Kemba. **** a Royce White. If UConn shows up they'll win.

Isn't this question answered by "In JC we trust?" His game plans neutralized the opposition's top weapon in every NCAA game last year. Why should this year be different?

Agreed. If UConn plays their game, there are very few teams in this tournament that could beat them. And Iowa State isn't one of them. If they look ahead to Kentucky, then things might get interesting.

Hes actually better than everyone said he was.
And to think he idolized UConn going back in 99 in MN. I blame this 'non-recruit' on Khalid, even if he was overseas.
