From what I've gathered, Royce White is usually a matchup nightmare. He's a 6'8, 270 pound point-forward who Iowa State fans claim brings the ball up the court 50% of the time and has the ability to drive past guards. White is clearly Iowa State's best player and slowing him down will be a key to the game. So, that being said, who is the best person on our team to guard him?
After the way that Drummond neutralized Kevin Jones at the end of the West Virginia game, he seems to be the first name that comes to mind. He's bigger than White, and certainly has the athletic gifts to keep up with him.
However, my pick to guard White is Roscoe. White has a lot of weight on Roscoe, but from what I've read from Iowa State fans, Royce White spends a lot more time dribbling and facilitating around the perimeter and in the lane than he does posting up in the paint. I like Roscoe guarding him on the perimeter more than Drummond for a couple of reasons. First, leaving Drummond in the paint allows to have a great shot blocking presence down low. If Drummond is forced to play around the perimeter, we cannot protect the rim as well and our rebounding will suffer. Also, I find that oftentimes, when a player that Drummond is guarding on the perimeter gets a step on him, he uses a hand-check and picks up a stupid foul. I think Drummond has a chance to be a force on the offensive side of the ball in this game, and would really want him to stay out of foul trouble.
Who do you guys think will guard Royce White for most of the game?
