Who are some of the players that messed the APR up?

I tend to agree, but you look at how stupidly complicated this system is, and how it doesn't really measure academic progress in any meaningful sense, and it's understandable why people are confused. It's a dumb system.

There were some other guys who left early too - Rudy Gray, ChuckVillanova, Ben Jordan, Josh Poon. A couple guys who left early graduated though, like Emeka Pokafor in '04 and Kimba Parker last year.

Oh btw i'm a big fan and supporter as well.

I'm sure gonna miss Jerry Lamb, Andre DeGiant, Alvin Karaoke, and Bradley International.

More importantly, wouldn't you want the name of the individual responsible for monitoring APR of your student athlete? Seems a little useless to point the finger at individuals who already left who were probably no more than 20 at the time.

You don't monitor aPR. Do you even know what aPR is? It's not a grade. If you leave, you leave.

The thing about the transfer waiver is that you can skate by with less than a 2.6 no problem and stay eligible. I'm sure you'd find a ton of basketball players in the 2.0 to 2.6 range, doing just enough to make sure they stay on the court, or maybe even doing fine credit-wise, but pulling in mostly B- and C+ grades, which isn't a crime.

So what this creates are scenarios where, for APR purposes, you're better off not letting a guy transfer with below a 2.6 if it might put you into the range where you could lose scholarships or end up ineligible. So the coaching staff and AD could essentially refuse to release someone out of self-interest and hold them hostage, even if they are on pace to graduate with a 2.59.

Which is just wonderful for the student-athlete.

While I realize you can't monitor APR, you can monitor academic progress. Poor wording on my part. And the is a differance between leaving and leaving in good academic standing, as in on schedule to complete your academic requirement.

ya but all those guys that left early doesn't effect the apr. its the transfers and the players who slacked off and failed classes. going to the NBA dosnt effect it. if that was the case John Caliparis teams would never be in the NCAA tournemnt. Plus the guys you named have been gone for a very long time. this whole case about the team really stems back to me with the 06-07 season and forward.

I am by no means one of the "old dogs" of this board but I can say with a fair amount of confidence that if you're unable to recognize sarcasm you're going to have a tough time here..

With the NCAA announcing yearly scores and the 3/3 waiver rule for NBA and 2.6 transfers pretty much understood I think people are going to nail the calc every year.

We've had this discussion here for over four or five months. It's the same old stuff. It's one thing to be a senior taking advanced courses in the major and quite another to be a freshman who has lots of electives and can take one-week intersession courses to make themselves eligible for next season prior to the spring. Maintaining eligibility as a freshman is easy; a whole different story for a senior. That's why even the term academic progress is bogus with respect the aPR. It has nothing to do with progress whatsoever. You get as many points (1) for returning for the spring semester of your freshman year as you do for graduating. That's why progress is practically irrelevant. When a senior leaves his spring semester, he's gone. And if he's taking courses in the major, there are no advanced intersession courses offered. This means a freshman can leave in the spring without dinging your aPR score, but a senior can't.
