We needed offense in the second half and Polley sat roughly for the last 3 minutes and 30 seconds. We needed his shooting and our offense played better with him on the court. He came in down 4 with ~15 seconds left

Nova scored 3 points total in the last 3:30, all on free throws with less than 15 seconds left. We scored 7 points. We held them scoreless for 3 key minutes after we took him out.

This is not the angle.
And if you put Polley in you're taking out Whaley who kept us in the game with his defense. We're now looking for storylines on why Hurley screwed up. His in game coaching and feel for the game is clearly getting much better.

how many games have we won scoring 60 this season? We came back in the first half because Polley played with either Sanogo or Whaley. We’re down 7 with 4 left and we needed to score. We got stops bc Hurley changed the defense. Man to man was getting us shredded. Credit to Hurley for switching it up

Polley was too busy missing wide open threes tonight

This was the slowest possession game we played all season (it happens, post season games slow down as teams focus in and get back on D and are more careful with the ball in general).

We scored more points per possession tonight (1.05) than In 6 of our 8 losses. Only the first Seton Hall game and Nova games (extended garbage time helped) did we have better offense in a loss. Offense was not as big a problem as the 60 points makes it seem.

Auburn, first Seton Hall, @Nova, @Xavier, H-Nova, and tonight are the only teams to score over 1.10 points per possession against us. Well also home Georgetown, but that was only because they got those 4 layups at the end. You'll notice that Nova is on that short list 3 times. There's a reason they are a top 10 offense in the country.

Fair. But we have won one game this season scoring 64 or less, Seton Hall last night. Without Aiken and a damaged Richmond.

Our defense is very good. This team needs more scoring. Some games require us to put Polley or even Hawkins in for Sanogo or Whaley.

Lol. 3 of those 7 points were on a terrible AJ brick that the hand of JC guided in. Don’t pretend we were scoring down the stretch. Our starting lineup is very good defensively and very challenged offensively. You’re a numbers guy . Pull up one of those genius sites that has our best offensive lineups. I promise you it is not Whaley, Sanogo, Martin, Cole and AJ. I have a feeling you know this already. When you are down 5 points you need to actually score the ball. Otherwise you just get stops and Lose by the amount you are down by.

Tje flip side of that coin, nova wasn't trying to score. Just killing clock. We needed points.

Hawkins makes this offense much harder to defend. We can’t forget that he’s been out. Add him and we can beat anybody.

Nova didn't score in the final 5:02 until we had to foul with seconds left. The defense gave us our chances to score and Whaley was the biggest part of that with 2 huge blocks. You put Polley in and you're taking Whaley out, Wright was targeting Polley. Sanogo missed another couple layups, Cole shot an airball wide open three, Tyrese missed a wide open 3. Refs missed a foul on Sanogo's rebound which would've put him on the line for 2 ft's. We had plenty of chances because of our defense at the end of the game. It just didn't work out.

We’ve won 3.

Also, Polley doesn’t move much without the ball and Nova was not giving him open looks down the stretch. Hard to fault the tactics that got us back to a one possession game with a minute to go.

No . Sanogo should’ve been out not Whaley.

Yeah no idea why I said 1. I think it’s 3-4, 4-4. The teams were either not at full strength or bottom of the barrel. Scoring 64 points or less isn’t good. To win, you need to score points and be confident you will.

We scored 60 points. The tactics that worked were when he changed the defense up (a bit too late) and took Cole off Gillespie. Defense wasn’t the problem. Scoring is and was. We would’ve lost by 6 or more if we didn’t get that Jackson lucky bounce

3-6*

He was on the bench, probably waiting to catch another pass out of bounds

The book is out on how teams should defend Sanogo: Double/triple team him as soon as he gets the ball and he ether travels, tries to dribble and loses the ball, or tries to throw up a weak/impossible shot that easilly misses and becomes a rebound for the opponent. All four of our last opponents did this and 3 were quite successful in limiting his effectiveness.

No . Sanogo should’ve been out not Whaley.
I think this is easy to say in hindsight, but generally I like when we play our best players. He had been struggling a bit, but he had also gotten a bunch of offensive rebounds and did score a couple easy ones down the stretch off nice entry passes. We're desperate at times for easy buckets in the half court, and he's by far our best option for those. With Whaley in for Sanogo and Cole being blanketed, there's not a ton of a great half court scoring options.

Whaley and Sanogo are really good on defense but our offense suffers with them in together. It also doesn’t help that Jackson isn’t an offensively threat, yet.
