The website Her Hoop Stats publishes an all-encompassing rating system that ranks teams based on offensive and defensive efficiency.
By this measure, UConn was by far the best team in women's college basketball this season, comfortably ahead of South Carolina, Texas and UCLA. They were the nation's best offensive group, per Her Hoop Stats, as well as its second-best defensive one.

In fact, the Huskies also grade out better by this measure than any of the seven previous national champions — and any other team to take the floor since 2018.

And Sarah Strong is just as good... already

Even so, UConn fans don't have to be too sad about Bueckers leaving for the WNBA. The Huskies already have someone essentially just as good.
Freshman forward Sarah Strong was impressive this season by traditional stats — 16.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game — but by advanced metrics she was a true superstar, in a class with the absolute best players in the country.

Remember how Bueckers was tied for the nation's lead in win shares? Well Strong was the player tied with her, grading out as the nation's third most valuable offensive player and its single most valuable defensive player. Remember how Bueckers ranked third in PER among players with at least 500 minutes on the court? Well Strong led the nation in that stat, becoming the first freshman in the Her Hoop Stats database to do so.

As efficient as Bueckers was, Strong actually had a better effective field goal percentage and more points per scoring attempt.
These stats aren't perfect, and if you're not convinced Strong is really as good already as Bueckers and Watkins, that's all right. What's clear, though, is UConn has itself a special talent, who'll help the Huskies keep winning for seasons to come.
