Where does Newton rank all-time?

If UConn wins a championship AGAIN this year, would Newton be the greatest UConn PG of all time? He just recorded his third UConn triple double and the season is just starting.
I wouldn’t rank him necessarily above Shabazz, Kemba, or Khalid at the top of my all time favorites, but he’d be on the Mount Rushmore in the top 4.

I'm not sure how to answer this question, but winning back to back National Championships would put him at an absolutely elite level of success in program history. The underlining was accidental, but Ill leave it, somehow it works.
Point being, we are blessed to have a mature winning player who scores, distributes and rebounds this well.

Newton would indeed be unique in terms of being a star on 2 Championship teams. As much as I love Shabazz, his role in 2011 wasn't nearly as big as Tristen's in 23.

He’s better this year than last. His fast break and outlet passing ability are on another level this season. He’s much improved. I attribute it to great coaching and a very coachable player. This staff seems to really understand how to develop players and find hard workers.

He’d be an all time great with a second title and this kind of all around play.

Newton is damn good, but Shabazz and Kemba combined had I think just Deandre get drafted. Newton will have potentially 3 lottery picks.

And no chance Kemba or Shabazz allow a team to take the ball out of their hands like Texas did to Newton a few nights ago.

At the moment, I second that assessment.

As for racking up assists, Newton has a lot more scoring weapons around him than any PG we've ever had. Last season he had teammates around him that could knock down 3s ( Hawkins, Karaban, Joey Cal) and this season (Karaban, Spencer and some other capable shooters). As for high percentage paint scorers, Sanogo, Cingan, Johnson & Karaban who has been scoring at and near the rim lately.

As for scoring, he keeps on improving both beyond the arc and in the paint. He's looking every bit as good a scorer as the 3 you mentioned (Khalid, Kemba & Shabazz).

Newton is an excellent rebounder and a lot taller that the those 3, though Kemba was an exceptional rebounder for his size. I think Bazz was a solid rebounder, though I don't recall Khalid pulling down many.

Ricky Moore could be in this conversation. He was a hell of a defender, good at attacking the rim, but not a good 3 point shooter. He lost a season due to an injury if I'm not mistaken and had to build his game back up. (Edited, I looked up his stats and he seemed to play a lot of games all four years, but I think he injured his knee at the end of one of his seasons and played little and poorly on a bad knee in an NCAA loss. I think his scoring was impacted after that injury where his scoring numbers went down his Junior and Senior seasons.)

Newton has a chance to be the best all around PG/CG we've ever had.

It’s easier for me as a fan to have an attachment to a player we recruit that stays three or four years. But TN staying two years as opposed to just one makes him feel more like “our’s” from a fan base perspective. Im very happy he’s here.

Yes. No question. Like we say about Boeheim. 2>1.

Boeheim in an uncredited role.

Yes he would be. Some people might not say he is the best, but would be the greatest based on resume by virtue of being the starting PG on two championship teams and a major contributor in each case.

I struggle to put someone above shabazz. Best player who Carried us to a championship which puts him at the top tier with kemba rip and okafor imo, have Allen and Gordon and Khalid a tier below them and then the guys from last year with a bunch of others on my third tier (third tier is still incredible btw). All that said I think Newton could get into the third tier and maybe second but def not the top one

If he wins 2 championships, he, Karaban, and Clingan will be the major pieces from these two.

The only other major contributor to two championships was Shabazz. (Giffey was a role player for one and the 4th best player on another, not quite there).

Among PGs, I think Shabazz gets the nod over Newton, largely by virtue of Newton having been option #3/4 last year and the leader of a balanced team this year, rather than a hero-ball guy who carried the team (which is credit to Hurley for assembling these rosters). It's also a fair question of how Kemba (a 3-year player who also carried his team, vs. Newton as a 2-year guy on fairly balanced teams) compares.

He’s the best outlet passer I’ve seen in a UConn uni.

stop. he’s not close to kemba or bazz.
Kemba- FF and Title. One man gang in the latter, he elevated the other kids’ play.
Bazz - two Titles. Winner.
Newton- one title, hasn’t had to take big end of game shots cause UCONN has blown so many teams out in his tenure. He achieves PG GOAT status if he snags another natty.
