Is that a contributing factor? Maybe. That soccer is, at best, the 4th most popular team sport in the country might have a little more to do with it.
No. It’s because with revenue sharing, a low salary cap (to allow small markets to remain competitive) and single entity is keeping the brakes on investing in the roster.
It’s more cost effective to develop talent or flip players at this level of spending.
MLS is the American Franchise model with training wheels and parachutes.
It’s about as Mickey Mouse as can be imagined.
