Free possession for UNC (they had the jump ball) up one with 45 seconds left b/c of this awfulness. Turned into a Hicks basket, and it was over from there.

Should've been Zags ball with 45 seconds left and a full shot clock, a chance to go ahead and run the clock down to 20ish seconds.

As good as last year's final was, this year's was a disaster. At least Duke & UK fans will be miserable but man... that sucked.

Noticed that right away as well. Are we supposed to believe everything is on the up and up, too much information pointing the other way.

They were terrible in the 2nd half. Turned a good game into mush with all the silly fouls.

Few being interviewed; nobody's told him about this yet, it seems. He's going to be pissed.

Saw it live and text my body, horrible call.

Gonzaga got a lot of silly calls as well.

The worst officiated championship game I've ever seen.

Horrible played game and tournament, no strong teams, unfortunate.

Honestly Gonzaga's performance in that second half was embarrassing, and the fact that Melson couldn't corral that ball when he had multiple chances at it was as symbolic as anything of how discombobulated they were that whole half. This was their opportunity to grab the golden ring and they just completely melted into a seizure in the second half. You could write a 3,000 word oral history on the anatomy of that choke job, it was the human psyche impeding performance in a way I have not seen in college basketball in quite some time on this stage.

If a call was missed, so be it. The story to me is the Gonzaga program. This was their year and they let one get away. North Carolina tried to give them that game so many times and they just wouldn't take it.

The free throw shooting in that game would make Memphis proud.

Was a very bad call, but they also botched the tipped shot on the airball three, Zags got the ball back and hit a three right after

This is it. We won the 2011 and 2014 titles in no small part because of FT shooting % (not attempts- UK had more attempts.

Gonzaga hits a reasonable FT%, they win the title.

The ball wasn't tipped, but the trajectory was all up because the shooter got hit on the hand. It should have been 3 free throws.

Didn't watch much BBall this year.
Thought Gonzaga's big man had a tough game. Guy was missing short shots. Kudos to NC's bigs for making it tough on him, but he didn't have focus and probably left 6 makable points on the floor because he was little panic-y.
Thought the reffing was really bad. Both teams in the bonus with 10 to go in the 2nd half. Boring.

Was cheering for Gonzaga.

In a way, they're now our (temporary) role model.

Officiating reminded me of UConn vs Cinci in the AAC tournament. Bad calls both ways. I recall the Zags shooting free throws after a guy took like 5 steps and was fouled. They really need to stress traveling. It goes uncalled constantly. 3 seconds too.

Why did they not review???

The only bright spot of this holocaust of a season was Emmert getting booed. guy.
It wasn't reviewed because the officials called it a jump ball which isn't a reviewable play. Very unfortunate break for Gonzaga. In fairness, around the 4:00 mark Gonzaga had that airball three that went out of bounds that the refs ruled was "blocked" by a UNC player when in reality the defender's hand was nowhere near the ball. On the ensuing out of bounds play, GU hit a three. Not quite the same from a time importance standpoint, but an extra possession they shouldn't have had nonetheless. Horrendous officiating all around last night.

On the replay it was clear the UNC player fouled him on the shot.

But they would not be reviewing if its a jump ball but a person being out of bounds. I don't question your right about the rules, but that seems crazy. A guy could be standing on the baseline, tie someone up, and if they dont call the out of bounds, its a tie-up? That seems exactly the type of thing they should be reviewing.

Thanks. That explains it -- but it doesn't make sense. Shouldn't there be people watching the championship game and letting the officials know when someone was out of bounds in the last minute of the game?

As far as Gonzaga's "extra possession," the shooter was fouled. So it was basically a wash. Maybe they got an extra point out of it.
