What's with the inability to inbound the ball!?!?

UConn used to be known for it's creative inbound plays, sometimes scoring off them. Now they struggle to even get the ball in without turning it over, and last night couldn't even inbound it in the frontcourt.

Is it execution or a lack of athleticism or combo of both?

Against a team like Florida, they can't afford these types of turnovers or time wasted resulting in low percentage shots.

I hope UConn plays its A game. It only takes a handful of avoidable mistakes (sloppy turnovers, shot clock violations, missed FTs, missed makeable shots, etc.) to cost you a game, especially against a very good team where the margin of error is so slim.

Imo it’s a combination of not enough high level fast-twitch athletes on the court, as well as not enough creative stacking with multiple screeners, and simple lack of movement with too many stationary guys out there. There are no Castles or Andre Jackson’s or Hawkins on this team that win through athleticism or relentless movement.

You don’t need great athletes to inbound the ball. It obviously helps, but it’s not a requirement. I watch us inbound and there is no movement at all. Inbounding against a 2-3 should not be something a D1 team should have difficulty with.

That has been driving me nuts. Obviously the game at Seton Hall was the worst and cost them the game. They've had lots of time to solve it but it's still going on. It seems no other teams have this issue all game.

Those long passes into the backcourt last night can be dangerous (e.g. the turnover on the sideline) and also waste a lot of time off the shot clock. And considering how many possessions they have that go down to the last 5 seconds with a scramble to put up a shot it's time they can ill afford to waste.

The zone defense on inbounds play, that seemed effective against us. I don't remember seeing anyone else throw that against us this year.

It often seems like when inbounding they are trying to get it to one guy. There is little movement and no guys coming to meet the ball. Maybe AK shouldn't be inbounding the ballsince movement without the ball is one of his strengths.

This is just an inept team with horrible BBIQ, very poor athleticism and ZERO playmakers it’s almost the antithesis of how to construct a college bb roster.

After made baskets we let the ball bounce, or worse give it to the ref letting the D set up their pressure. Just inbound the damn ball right away. I can not understand why we are this bad at it.
That aggravates the hell out of me when I see that.

I’m ok with the backcourt. Just throw it to the middle.

My hot take is it’s cause teams get away with holding us, clogging up inbound sets that need to be run quickly.

We have a SLOW team. Literally. No one is fast except Solo and maybe Sam.

Did you see how quick Oklahoma was?

In addition to the problems mentioned, the other issue is that refs, in every game not just ours, swallow the whistle and permit the defensive player to do anything without fear of a foul

JC used to get buckets off in bounds plays under our own basket. To throw the ball 50 feet automatically is criminal. It’s been an issue for a while I don’t get it.

One of the early in bounds was a lob to SJ but he was being bodied and his weak hands couldn’t secure it. No reason can’t do the same to Tarris he has great hands.

The Portland Head Coach Billips recently complemented Donovan’s screening. We miss that and he was also a great safety val option on any out of bounds play if all else failed.
