  1. TV Coverage didn't pick up the game until about 9 minutes in.
  2. UConn in the lead, Solo having himself a game -- a first half, anyway. We'll have to wait and see what the second half brings.
  3. To me, Demary looks a little hesitant in the 1st half. Seemed like he was playing 2 to 3 feet farther from the rim than usual. For a minute, I thought Smith was in, because he usually plays farther from the rim than Demary.
  4. Only 1 player on each team with double figures in the first half. Solo with 16 and Georgetown's Lewis with 13. Other than those two, no-one has more than 6 at the half.
  5. G-town has 14 bench points in the first half. We have only 4, all from Reibe.
  6. Alex's first three of the 2nd half, pushing the lead back to a dozen at 11:12 felt to me like the most important bucket of the game, at least at that point. But then there was his 3 pointer at 8:41 & the one at 2:54. Not to mention his 2 FTs @ 10 seconds. From where I was sitting -- in my basement, watching on a laptop :( -- it sure looked like Alex saved that game for us.
  7. Made basket comparison -- buckets, threes and free throws -- UConn 47,32,72% to G-town 44,43,65%.
  8. Boards, dimes, turnovers, steals and blocks -- Us, 34/20/10/4/4 them, 31/15/12/7/1
  9. G-town got 34 of their 75 points off the bench, Huskies had only 12 of our 79 points off the bench.
  10. Not a good night for Husky centers. 14 points, 3 boards, 1 dime and 2 blocks (and only 9 shots taken) between them. Our point guard had more rebounds and points than both of our centers combined.
  11. As I suspected he would, Solo did slow down in the 2nd half. But he did have a couple key buckets and Alex stepped up big time to lead us. I'd have to split the POG deal between them while apologizing to Demary for snubbing him on a night he was one dime away from a triple double.
  12. Is it me, or is it way too late in the season to be squeaking by the 8th place in the conference team?

Yes, probably closer than it should have been, but they did hit some pretty well defended 3's. In addition, that one kid who hit 4 of them was averaging about 3 points a game, He finished with 15 last night. Always seems to happen to us.

Been said before but needs to be reiterated: we are going to lose if we keep playing with our food. Up 14 in the second half should never be an in-doubt finish - especially at home.

Hurley keeps talking about what we have to fix. My question is this, are we just not capable of doing what he wants from an athleticism or skills set?

I think we just have some guys who default to a timid brand of basketball sometimes, especially the second unit. Ross and Stewart seem to get so scared to make a mistake that they don’t seem comfortable showcasing their skillset and end up becoming passengers offensively. Reibe has a ton of skill but isn’t very physical or aggressive on either side of the ball. Even Karaban, who is one of the greatest Huskies ever, will frequently go entire halves without really asserting himself.

Credit to Solo, because I think his self-belief and willingness to shoot it is absolutely huge for this team. Obviously had some struggles with efficiency this year, but we need him to take those shots.

Ross did try a spin move in the lane which was the most aggressive move that I remember from him. Unfortunately, he turned it over and Danny substituted for him immediately.

.-.

Can’t remember which game (Butler?), but he recently hit a step back 3 off the dribble too. I’m a huge Jayden Ross fan so I’m always happy when I see him do something besides standing in the corner trying to stay out of the way.

Yes that was against Butler.
