I ask because its mystifying to me why Hurley doesn't even try a change.

Starting Reed puts immense pressure immediately on their bigs, which could create early foul problems, especially if we deliberately feed him. Samson is not that kind of threat so Centers can roam just looking out for the once or twice alley-oop. When Reed is on the floor opponents can not double team or roam consequently leaving a UConn player free. With Samson its 4 on 5, defense not worrying about him, particularly if Hassan is out.

People will say starting doesn't matter but our best big is not able to set the tone.

We've got to make a change somewhere or there is no 3peat. I know its late season to be making adjustments but this to me is necessary to try.

3 Peat? Please tell me the medication you are abusing.

If playing in a Big East game? He’d have 2 fouls before the under 16 timeout
Yep, this. I can only assume we tell our bigs not to reach in but it's incredible how many stupid fouls they both pick up 20+ feet from the basket. Tarris had a back breaker with under a minute to go in the Seton Hall loss.

I think we can stop talking about TR starting. Dan Hurley is clearly riding or dying with his guys regardless of what we say or what is visible on the court. Last night we died. TR won't start in the NCAA Tournament, and I think everyone needs to realize that.

He's our best big, but as long as he's getting most of the minutes I don't really care if it's off the bench. And Samson seems to have 4-6 points at the U16 timeout most games anyway so it's working
I’d typically agree but Reed strikes me as the kind of kid you need to give structure and constistency to in order to get the most out of him.

I agree, which is what he's had this year and he's been very good. Changing his role mid March is not consistency

Tarris played 16 minutes last night and ended up with only 3 personal fouls. He sat after 2 fouls and that accomplished what? Getting him a lousy 16 minutes?
Johnson had 3 rebounds and 2 points in 24 minutes.
We tied them in rebounds with 31 but what if Tarris played 25 minutes?
My medication comment before was on the 3 Peat but I agree for any chance of tourney success of any kind he needs 25 minutes a game, and play him with 2 fouls in the first half. Roll the dice. Have to gamble with this team a bit.

Samson had been playing really well recently but I thought he looked tired last night. Unfortunately Tarris committed 2 early fouls.

It blows my mind that people still think Johnson is part of a winning solution for UConn. Reed should’ve been starting in January. It was apparently misplaced loyalty that caused Hurley to force this issue.

Agreed. He ate up Zuby and needs time to get going.
Just need to teach him not to foul and hit a 10 footer to keep the defense honest

I don't think our problem is at the 5.
The lack of a point guard who can breakdown the defense in score at will is. HD is a gamer, but no Kemba, Shabazz or Tristans are walking through the door. Also, lack of depth. Most here expected AN to be that guy based on his highlight videos, but he's looks like a completely different guy than he showed in high school.

I would like to see Reed and Sampson on the floor at the same time for at least a few minutes per game. We don't have a PF, nor the players to effectively run Hurley's Hampster Wheel Offense. Our offense resembles a Harlem Globetrotter routine, but without the happy ending. We race around in a circle and take 20 seconds off the shot clock. Then, we throw up a panic shot, or forget to shoot at all. Sorry, I'm just venting. Disappointed in a season where my expectations proved to be outrageously too optimistic.

Structure and consistency very true. But also I have been banging this drum for a while, but the coaching staff need help Tarris be engaged. I don't care about him starting because I don't want to see him pick up early fouls. But when he is in the game, don't just have him only setting screens and holding the ball at the 3 point line looking for someone to pass to while never staring at the basket. Give him the ball in the post where he can do damage.

If UConn had a guard/forward that could dribble penetrate to the basket, my goodness, Tarris would have so many opportunities to get the weakside offensive rebounds when his defender, the opposing center, goes to help on penetrator.

I disagree with everything after your first sentence but both of them on the floor at the same time would really help our defense, which is our biggest flaw. Samson has already shown he can guard non centers very well.

Diarra ran the offense well, and got a good amount of assists from making the right passes in the flow of the offense.

But he wasn't respected from 3, and he wasn't often effective as a driver. Mahaney was obviously even worse. It clogged a lot of stuff with defenders going under and opposing centers living at the charge circle. Between the efficiency of our centers and the shooting we had 2-4, we should have had a top 5 offense, not a top 15 offense.
