I don't know the area well, but stayed in Irving awhile, and if you get a chance, I'd definitely stop by a Hard Eight Pit BBQ (or similar). Any place where they charge you by the pound with meat is alright in my book. Say what you want about Texas, but they know their BBQ.

Plenty of good BBQ around for sure. I'll throw a little ISU plug in here though.

Babb Bros BBQ is owned by Mike Babb and his brothers. He is the father of a former Cyclone and Nittany Lion (Chris Babb, currently with the Celtics). Just west of downtown off Singleton Blvd across the Margaret Hunt Bridge. Go get some!

Fort Worth is small but has some nice character -- a section of old-western-style bars and restaurants. They even do a walk of the cattle through the streets every day I think. A little kitschy but better than Dallas, which seemed more nondescript big city to me. Though hard to do much with a city when one its top tourist attractions is where a president was murdered (bring on the fun!). Then again, going to the grassy knoll and seeing all the kooks handing out literature with their weird theories is a bit interesting.

The JFK museum (the grassy knoll / book depository) is a must see if you have any sense of history, or if you were alive when it happened, or if you saw the movie JFK, or if you have a morbid sensibility. Since I qualify on all counts it was amazing.

That's the downside. Dallas blows.

Springsteen and UCONN final four. That's awesome!

A museum devoted to a murder always seemed creepy to me. I didn't enjoy it.

I was there last weekend and spent a good chunk of time at the Katy Trail Ice House in Uptown. Fantastic indoor/outdoor garage-type bar. Most of this weekend when we're not playing, I'll be there reliving the magic of my game watch from Sunday and throwing back beer-garitas.

The deep Ellum section of Dallas is pretty cool if you're into music.
