The NCAA should allow some exceptions related to football during these turbulent CR money grab days. No one enjoys these moves unless they are talking about finances and that is what has become of college football. Talking about media rights. The Northeast and East Coast in particular are just different than the rest of the country when it comes to football and basketball. We could create a temporary 6 team conference or it could become a pod within the AAC, or any other G5 conference for that matter.

Football Conferencette
UConn
Temple
Army
Navy
Oregon State
Washington State

Temple - I don't know if they enjoy sucking in the AAC but Temple could move back to the A-10 to replace UMass.
Army & Navy realized they needed to finally join a conference but the AAC lost 3 of its biggest football programs. It still has USF and Memphis but otherwise it seems so odd to see the service academies in the AAC. It's not even the best of the G5 anymore.
The PAC 2 are lonely and need friends.
Delaware is joining C-USA soon but would be a good regional rival.

The AAC is currently at 14. It could add football only UConn, OSU, WSU and one other program (UMass, Delaware, Buffalo, ??) to get to 18
The MWC is currently at 12. It too could make some football only additions.

Just trying to imagine a world where UConn can develop football without being Independent. I'm not sure if any G5 conference is interested in adding football only but it would make sense.

Ironically, that little football conference would be enough to probably steal USF and a couple others from the AAC. But like everything else, it all comes down to "what would that be worth for a tv contract? "
