OT: What sports cards / memorabilia are you collecting?

Anybody ever try stuff those live box breaks you pay for a spot?

I’ve done it a few times. When I do a random group break, I usually end up with a crappy team like the Rockies but when I buy a personal pack, I’ve had some success. It’s fun & much cheaper than buying a whole box to open & getting stiffed.

At one point in my life I thought I would start collecting golf memorabilia, that thought really didn’t last long. However, I have a circa 1950 Ben Hogan persimmon driver that’s been hit maybe 15 times in its life. Also, 4/5 irons from the early 1940’s, made in New Zealand. Not steel shafts, but some kind of metal.
I’m getting older than dirt and want to downsize. They are out of here somehow.

What were the years though? Anything from 80 up is worth very little. Seems like 75 and below is where potential $ is but even moreso 50s and 60s.

Ever since graduating, and having some disposable income, I've been into UConn player exclusive memorabilia. Been able to snag some jerseys, practice jerseys, shoes, etc. Some through ebay and other online avenues, others by meeting fellow fans and building relationships. Just bought my first house recently so I can't wait to deck out the man cave with some gear soon.

How do you get stuff like practice jerseys? That’s owned by the University. I’d assume they get tossed in a laundry bin. Does some student assistant grab them and sell them for extra cash?

I have a hand signed picture of Derek Jeter from the 1999 World Series of his iconic jump throw.

My late grandmother was at one of the WS games and he signed it for her. She gave it to me as a gift.

That’s the stuff I love, unique pieces with personal value, not something signed in a big series or 30 years later at a card show. I have a huge signed picture of Jeter that was signed in 1995, his pre rookie season. I’m a Sox fan but that is one of my favorite pieces. no doubt. It’s great that you have another nice reminder of your grandmother. I have a similar piece, the ticket stub from Lou Gehrig’s last game, given to me by grandparents who were in attendance.
