What side of the rivalry are you on- Boston/New York

I always looked at Connecticut being split between the “ Tri-State” and “New England”.
From the Stamford area to New Haven County = “ Tri- state area” and the other half of Connecticut being part of New England. Giants, Jets, Knicks, Nets= Tri-State. Patriots, Red Sox= New England.

I grew up in Hartford County, then moved to New Haven County for a little bit, then moved to Fairfield County for a little bit, then moved to NYC for a few years

So I guess I'm on NY's side :)

Just curious. Why do you hate the Giants and Mets? I’m a Jets/Mets fan and I couldn’t care less about the Yankees and Giants. Even with the Subway Series every year, I don’t care a lick about them.
grew up in a household of Giants and Mets fans
my contrarian side drove me to the Cowboys and Yankees
we've had some exciting/angry Cowboys v Giants football Sundays

I'm not sure where you find Mets/Jets fans.
I was 100% a Mets/Jets fan. There were lots of us in lower Fairfield Cty. Was originally a Knicks fan until Dr. J came to Nets. Was also a mild Rangers fan until the Islanders signed Potvin. That said, the Sox were my 2nd favorite MLB team, along with pretty much any other AL team that was playing the Yankees.

born/raised in Queens:
Giants
Mets
Knicks
Bruins - liked Bobby Orr

I was born in MA; my mom is from MA; and she met my dad when he was playing ball in a summer league between semesters in MA -- so I, and my family, root for primarily Boston teams.

My grandparents (my mom's parents) were such devoted Sox fans that my grandmother used to listen to each game on the radio and compile a detailed box score for my grandfather to peruse when he got home from work. And watching the final outs of the 2004 World Series, while on the phone with my dad, will always be one of my most cherished memories.

Hockey -- Bruins (with Tampa Bay a second choice); football -- Patriots, although when I was growing up we also liked the Giants, and I also liked the Raiders; and basketball -- UConn, and whatever NBA team has UConn players (although my dad still follows the Celtics).

Fairfield County - as a kid I was a huge Knicks and Giants fan. At some point I Started rooting for the Jets as I liked some of the players so everyone considers me a Jets fan, but in all honesty I’ve always been more fond of the Giants.

First MLB game was a Mets game so naturally I became a fan. However as I got older I found myself much more a fan of Boston than NYC so I’ve started to have more interest in the Sox.

Overall I was a huge professional sports fan as a kid but since HS/college it’s been all UConn. Not to say I don’t watch/follow professional sports because I definitely do, I just can’t find myself having a rooting interest in one team.

I was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. My brother and dad were Red Sox fans. We all hated the Yankees.

Giants / Yankees / Devils / Knicks

But to be honest, of the 4 I really don't care or follow them anymore outside of the Giants. Was a Yankee die hard as a kid during the Bernie/Jeter era but I've been really turned off by MLB in recent years particularly with the expanded playoffs. I'll watch Yankees/Devils playoffs and Knicks I'll watch playoffs if it's convenient.

Basically UConn hoop and UConn football > all

Patriots (since 1974 so save your bandwagon crap, I suffered more 1-15 seasons than any team in NFL history)
Sox
Celts (kinda)
Don’t give a crap about hockey

UConn men’s hoops more than all of those combined x 100

.-.
Boston

But I don't hate NY teams, no reason too

Fits me to a tee, do you live in Windham County?

Grew up in Vernon with a split family mostly favoring Yankees. I was a die hard Sox fan.

Sixers in hoops
Whalers for hockey
Rams and Jets for NFL

UConn for college sports.

Personally I fall on the NY side (though no strong feelings towards NBA/NHL). Yankees and Giants

I have a lot of friends who straddle the line- mostly Giants and Boston for other sports

There are tons of these people. I’m one. Had easily a half dozen friends at UConn that were the same. Reason being that in our parents’ time, the Patriots were a bad franchise playing in a minor league.

Sox - listened to games on the radio at night when I was young
Whalers - Therefore, I still hate the Bruins and Rangers.
Pats - Father was a giants fan, but my first NFL game was at Schaffer stadium
UCONN BB - Not really a big NBA fan - Tried to get myself excited for Celtics, but can, so I just following as many UConn Alum as possible.

For me it is Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Boston Celtics. I hate NY sport teams but funny thing I love NYC and don't care for Boston as a city. LOL! NYC is such an unique city that I love going there and always have fun.

Holy dysfunctional Batman
Can’t really argue with that. As I get on in years I’m starting to reflect that my formative years sports team choices bear a great share of my later mental disquiet. Anyway that ship has sailed at this point.

Stamford
Greenwich too, basically SW Fairfield country.

Grew up in Greenwich. No Boston fans I grew up with, aside from people w Boston connections…most friends are Mets fans but I’m a Yankees/Rangers/Giants/Knicks guy in terms of pro sports.

Mom’s family is from Stamford, Bridgeport and Bensonhurst BK…were Dodgers fans before the move to LA and my mom adopted the Yankees soon after.

Dad from PA and not a sports guy, so all NY teams for me. Much older sisters both went to UConn, so that made being a UConn fan easy.

Lol I’m exactly the opposite. Love the sox and despise Boston, I really hate that city, and NYC is part of my soul. In fact I’m typing this from a bench break at MoMA right now
:) This rivalry has every angle covered for sure. Don’t feel safe in NYC and way too many people like Calcutta while I love the Euro feel of Boston and smaller town feel. Love the architecture and neighborhoods and easy to navigate.

That's what I consider a traditional, conservative rooting interest. Always thought you could break down society into groups who rooted for either those four, or for Mets/Jets/Nets/Islanders. Anyone who mixed teams between the two could not be trusted to make important decisions :D

My mom was a Dodgers fan, dad was a Giants fan. Both from Stamford and both

I grew up 45 minutes from Shea, worked in the Bronx and drove a panel truck in NYC for awhile during early Koch years when the place was a mess. Later lived in Quincy. I don't understand how anyone could "hate" either city, except for the traffic. I will say that Boston smelled less like piss.

I didn't want to interrupt the conversation, but I felt the need to speak for the small group of posters who couldn't care less about Boston or New York sports of any kind.

Carry on.

Yankees/Celtics/Patriots/Whalers

Born and raised in Poughkeepsie, NY. First baseball game I saw in person was the original Yankee Stadium against the Cleveland Indians. Indians centerfielder was Jimmy Piersall. Seen games in all 3 versions of Yankee Stadium. I am a Yankees fan along with our 3 sons and 4 grandsons.

My wife was born and spent her first 13 years in Westerly, RI. Then they moved to CT. She is a Red Sox fan.

I am also a NY Giants fan. NBA and NHL are not on my radar at all.

But above all, we are UConn basketball fans. And that includes the 3 sons, two daughter-in-laws and the 4 grand sons!!!

if you live in New Haven county, NY all day. but it’s still CT. a lot of my HS back in the late 80 early90’s liked different teams. everyone loved billy joel & neil diamond
