Since this years team is at an important point in the season with some BIG games coming up, thought we could look back at some UConn Classics.

What is your favorite/best UConn basketball game you've ever seen?

For me, all I gotta say is .. 77-74

Best game might be the win at Arizona in 2002. A lot of lottery picks playing at a high level. Caron might have been the eighth best player that night.

Favorite after the final horn is 77-74. Not necessarily the best game because it did get a little sloppy for five minutes in the second half (from about 8:00-3:00, when Rip hit the three to go up five).

Favorite for how much I enjoyed it in progress might be a toss up between Alabama in the Elite Eight, Georgia Tech in the finals, and St. John's in the 1999 BET game. And, hell with it, I love the way we squished Butler like a bug in the second half. Everyone else says it was an ugly final, but it was a defensive masterpiece to me.

Objectively, the 99 NC is so far above anything else, it's pointless to compare anything else to it.

I do like Gurleyman's response.

Games that were great in hindsight, but absolutely brutal watching- Washington 2006, Duke 2004, Gonzaga 1999
Games that were great because I was nervous beforehand, but were smooth sailing- Iowa State 2014, Florida 2014, Texas A&M 2009, St. Johns 1999
Games that were great because I was never nervous about them-Georgia Tech 2004, Butler 2011

Other great games- Pitt 2002, 2004 BET, Gtown 1996 BET, Gonzaga 2008, OSU 1999

Many great games. But 77 - 74 tops them all. And I was in the building!

I know I'm in the minority, but the 2004 Final Four comeback win over Duke ever so slightly trumps the '99 Championship game for me. Just the way it happened made it more satisfying.

Other guilty pleasures include the Big East tournament championship over Syracuse in 1990 (after they got out to a big early lead), the epic destruction of BC in the final regular season game in 2003 (ruining their big self-congratulatory moment with style), and the last Championship in 2014 ("This is what happens when you ban us!").

Never get tired of watching those games, ever.

Look at the list ... the Boneyard is definitively gone younger. Like 1996 was the earliest?

That Duke team wasn't the "Greatest College BB in history"
We we the favorite in that game and barring the refs we were 10 points better than them.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, I agree with everyone else, this is a race for second best. The '99 championship game, featuring so many great talents, a historic upset in the minds of the media (it was considered the Duke Invitational Tournament that year), nip/tuck game all the way, dramatic last second plays (won not so much by game winning shots, but game-winning defensive plays, so appropriate for a Calhoun team)...UConn's first title, full arrival on the national scene, validation of the legend that is Jim Calhoun...

There is only one answer to this question.

Best game of all-time is 77-74. Best I've ever seen any UConn team play was the '99 BET against St. John's.

http://www.nytimes.com/1999/03/07/s...all-what-slump-huskies-dissect-red-storm.html
"Richard Hamilton plucked a rebound and pinged it to the wing and Ricky Moore, who ponged it crosscourt to Khalid El-Amin, who floated an alley-oop pass for Kevin Freeman to ram home. It was all the more eloquent because the ball went 94 feet without hitting the floor."
Answering the question, "What is your favorite play (game-winners excluded) in UConn basketball history?"

Some of my favorites include 77-74 obviously, but also 06 @Syracuse (what a romping), 09 @Louisville, 14 vs MSU @MSG.

It's a four way tie between the last game of the 1998-1999 season, the last game of the 2003-2004 season, the last game of the 2010-2011 season and the last game of the 2013-2014 season,

Nah. All titles are equal, but some are more equal than others.

Quite coincidentally, Netflix sent me the DVD of the 1999 NCAA Championship on Saturday and I watched yesterday. That was an game and that team would beat any current team by 20 on an off-night.

The thing I've always loved most about the '99 title team was their focus and determination. There were not going to be denied; period, end of story.

I've often wondered what a couple of subsequent teams would have done if they had a fraction of that team's will to win.
