I am very mystified by the lack of commitments in the Class of 2013.

According to Hoopgurlz, there are only two (2) commited players in the top 39.

Isn't that more than a little odd?

Peace,

John Fryer

I think this may be the result of there being more legitimate choices out there on the women's side than there used to be. I think more coaches are now view as 'good' and more teams are seen as having the strong support of their institutions. I think you can look at most of the top 25 and say with a couple of good recruits any one of them could make it to the final 4 in the next four years - yes there are the usual folks at the very top, but the field below them is pretty solid. More teams are also getting national exposure and localized broadcasting has really expanded as well with the new conference broadcast networks.
I do expect more commitments to come once the HS season comes to an end.

Probably smart of them, IMO. I bet when the first big few commit the rest will, they are probably all seeing where the others are going. That could play a part in it...

Yeah, but that's always the case. The question is: why the logjam this year?

I dunno, I bet the situation with Tennessee has a lot to do with it. Maybe kids looking at that program and others are hesitating, like Diamond, (just conjecture) and others who are waiting to see if someone like Diamond commits there or elsewhere because it might factor into their decision...who knows, these is all just theories. But a lot of the high level kids are I'm sure being recruited by UT, and they don't want to committ too soon to an unstable coaching environment. I don't know that this explains why only 2 players have committed, but I bet it explains some of their hesitation.

IMO its whats going on with Tenn. and how stacked Uconn is right now whats keeping some of these players from committing

I agree re the Tennessee situation. It was getting a bit rediculous with the early committments. Soon, the coaches were going to have to learn to change the diapers of kids with athletic parents. The TN situation would give me pause if I was a AA player. The coach is a big part of why a school is selected. Also, from the coaching side, late bloomers could be missed if recruiting too early. And true, there are more good choices for kids that want to play BB.
