Perhaps one of the strangest university mascots in the country:

What is a Billiken?

(My other favorites are the UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, the Pomona College Sagehens, UC-Irvine Anteaters (from a "BC" comic strip), and the Rhode Island School of Design- I won't even mention it, but it's official!

RISD. Oh dear. Somehow I don't think their mascot was either well enough thought out or given long term consideration. Heaven forfend that RISD and North Carolina School of the Arts should ever meet in contest.
