Okay, okay, I know this is sacrilege. But, for the sake of "what if", suppose there were no UConn. Who wins the National Championships in the nine years that UConn won? Here's my best guess:

1995 Tenn
2000 Tenn
2002 Oklahoma ( maybe Tenn, don't know who wins between Ok and Tenn)
2003 Tenn
2004 Tenn
2009 Stanford
2010 Stanford
2013 Notre Dame
2014 Notre Dame

Hard to consider a world where Tenn has four or five more NCs.

Any one else care to speculate?

I love these "what if" threads. I pretty much agree with everything you said, although I think some of those early 2000s Tennessee teams were awfully shaky. I don't think Tennessee necessarily was the 2nd best team in the nation in 2002 or 2004. A game against OU would've been very competitive in 2002, in 2004 Tennessee was so shaky and had three consecutive games where they needed game winners in the last 5 seconds. 2000 Tennessee was a good squad, but if they played like they did in the 2000 title game, they could have been beaten by anyone. 2003 Tennessee wins the title though, IMO. 2009 was a crap shoot, no one stood a chance against UCONN and I don't think there really was a true 2nd best team. If it's L'Ville vs. Stanford, I'd go with Stanford but niether team was very good that year. In 2010, Stnaford most likely goes undefeated if there isn't a UCONN. 2013 and 2014 are Notre Dame's year, assuming L'Ville still knocks off Baylor.

You have to consider where would have all the great players that UCONN got- where would they have gone? For example, someone else might have said "We have Diana and you don't."

besides the Vols winning probably a few more titles,

The All American Red Heads would not be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

D would have probably gone to UCLA, score the most points in NCAA history and have no titles :(

Shut yo mouth!!! :) But WCBB would be okay. There probably would have been another team dominate. Maybe that team would have won 2-3 titles and then another team probably would have taken over. But the WCBB would have been okay...just not as sexy without the Big Blue leading the way...just saying.

What if there were no Tennessee? Or what if UCONN won the 2001 title... Would Notre Dame be what it is today???

Why?
I became a UConn fanatic in94. along with that i became very interested in the history of the game.

around 98 i located the owner of the red heads. he was in the process of cleaning out his house. other than uniforms and ball bags he had a big pile of documents, contract, scorebooks, old film and so much more
he had previously burned a lot of his artifacts and was about ready to finish what he had. neither of his kids wanted anything to do with it nor anyone else for years. while the red heads did get a nice exhibit in the wbhof, they were simply looked at as a female trotters.

When Orwell

Moore relized someone was interested instead of burning it, he sold it to me. i was able to produce a very well documented history of the team when i wrote their nomination. i coukd document games where they would have attendence of over 2,000 in a town of a 1000. i wrote that even during tragedies like Pearl Harbor and assassinations of JFK and MLK the red heads were still on the court entertaining the communities.

that when the Rhs started most of those in the stands were male but it changed to families with kids.

and that while there was entertainment like the trotters it was about the rhs providing an opportunity for women to play basketball and get paid when so few opportunities existed. add in the footage i converted to digital and it made a good submission.

if Orwell had burned all of that.. i do not think they would be in the HOF.

This is what happens when you're bored with the conference you're in.
Perhaps, but that little 90 game win streak came when UConn was "stuck" in the best conference in college basketball, so maybe we're easily bored.:p

I have been thinking about this... wouldn't the butterfly effect go into place? With no UCONN in 95 all the seeding would be different. Assuming Tennessee ended up as the #1 team they might have a different field and maybe someone else would have knocked them off. Also who would have ended up with the Big East Automatic bid..... which new team would be int he field other than UCONN. How would their play affect the situation? Would Stanford have gone on to the championship game? Would they have beaten Tennessee? If there were no UCONN where would Rebecca have played? Or Kara Wolters? Or Jen Rizzotti??? How would those kids being elsewhere change the dynamics of other teams. If Team A landed Rebecca would they still have recruited player B? etc.

If UCONN landed Jayne Appel with Tina Charles would Geno have recruited Kaili McLaren?

If there were no UConn, whatever there was instead at UConn would have no attendance and been playing in the old fieldhouse. If there had been no UConn, the multitude of young players who were attracted to hoops because of UConn and the TV visibility it created would be running track or playing volleyball like more women athletes used to. If there had been no UConn, LA Tech and Old Dominion would be giving Tennessee and Alcorn State a run for their money.

It wasn't a dig, in any way; just an observation.

You raise a lot of good points, but my initial thoughts were much simpler, who was the second best team in years where UConn won? No need to get any more esoteric than that....

Oh, puleez, go look at your home board. If there is not a game today, your board has nothing to say. Womens game analysis, zip. Just in conference banter, zip. Thread about upcoming NCAA opponents, etc, zip. Your fan base isn't bored, it's brain dead. Which is why you are here, and I don't blame you a bit.
