What has happened to this board?

I hate the random insiders who most likely are students whove run into players in social scenerioes, now deeming themselves as confidants

Isn't that what Fishy's been doing since 1996???
First he basehes his head intro a wall, and then he punches someone in the throat and if he's really upset he finds the offending poster and punches his mother in the uterus. las I fear there are now too many offending posters for him to keep up. Plus he's getting old.

This board has grown, it's not just the usual suspects anymore, I find myself getting irritated defending my posts against a lot of know it all newbie posters. Most of the posters are alright, but some are the whinny doomsday type.

All in all, the board is fun, can't start my day without perusing a few posts and then the occasional smh.

agreed. the ignore feature is great. I dont have to worry about 6'10'' STB or idiot HFD

Ever since our judges died the board went with them. Hangings were an effective deterrent to minimizing the bs.

Perusing the board is manageable if you understand the audience.

"Its always better to understand than to be understood"

Judges? Plural? There ain't but one Judge here, son. And he ain't dead. He's just getting ready to lead another title charge.

We lost a lot of good posters. Maybe I'm just old but some of these newbie posters are as you said whinny doomsday types without a whole lot of knowledge. They come out in numbers after a loss and don't seem that the basketball season is a marathon not a sprint.

I hate reading posts that say the Board isn't like the old days. With the flip of a switch the board becomes a magnet for work/spare time. The WINNING theme was epic. And that was just a couple of years ago. The fun factor rests on the reason we're here in the first place. Hoops.

This is true. WINNING was one of the best runs.

Probably just rose-colored glasses glossing over some of the less likable moments from the past.

But, I'd really like another love potion post...

I think people in general are more spoiled, obviously. If you are 25 or younger you've never known a world where UCONN is not a dominant basketball power, and certain expectations come along with that, even if they are entirely unrealistic most of the time.

That said, there have always been clueless idiots, people constantly complaining about players, and people freaking out about close wins and/or losses. It's been like that for 17-18 years now. Everyone looks back so fondly on Jeff Adrien, but when he was actually here playing he was b*tched about constantly.... and I can't even count the number of people who posted Ricky Moore needed to play less because we needed a shooting guard who could actually shoot.

I remember we played a close exhibition game at the start of the 98-99 season and people were ready to jump out windows despite the fact that we won the game.

It's not really much different.

I've been coming to the boneyard for many years now and it seems just recently that the board is becoming almost unreadable. The basketball IQ seems lower than it's ever been and there are just more absolutely ridiculous posts then I ever remembered in the past. People saying they think Shabazz, Boatright and Daniels will all leave, Shabazz and Boatright will leave because neither cares about college and they just want to play in Europe. Shabazz should leave now so he can play in Europe and make $45,000 next year. These are just a few examples of the ridiculous nonsense that is spewed here regularly now. I can no longer read this board without wanting to bash my head into the wall.
I have two thoughts. First and foremost, if you don't like what's being posted don't read it or better yet, start your own board and require posters to answer an essay question of the evolution of the 3-point shot in the history of end of game planning, or something that will insure that only people you agree with, and who meet your basketball iq standards can post. Second, I think this board has really turned into a bunch of high school girls leading the cheers for "our boys." Too much about how brave our lads were in taking on Providence and much less about strategy. Particularly over the past year, and certainly over the past 4 or 5 years, it reads more and more like the womens board. Criticism of strategy, play, coaching, recruiting, behavior, decision making, is all treated as an attack on some sacred program.

This is soo true. In 2006, Adrien was lionized, and for the next 3 years pilloried. It always struck me as insane.

Ricky Moore gave us his all, played phenomenal defense, and saved us in that title game. I think people justifiable had expected more in 1997-98 after what he did at the end of the 1996 season, but hadn't realized some of the other things he did. It's a fact that if Ricky could shoot better with all those other skills, he would have been a pro player.

But it's also a fact that if he could shoot better w/o those other skills, we don't win a title until at least 2004.

It's weird, the first half of your post criticizes the OP, and then the second half says the same types of things he said.

People can and should criticize players. Here's what irritates me: people criticizing players, but not having good reasons or a sense of the long-game that is college basketball.

Boatright did a lot of good things this year, but he also did a lot of less good things. Dribbling too much, forcing shots, missing open teammates...these are all legitimate causes for criticism and concern, and that has been some of what people said. But there have been all sorts of dumb criticisms and strange suggestions...

Haha. You didn't read the argument that Bazz should go play ball in Turkey because it will increase the amount of money he'll make over the life of his career?

I guess I'm selective in my reading here. If I think it's going to bore me or infuriate me, I skip it, or just scan through for a reply from Fishy. Fishy's replies to stupid threads are always worth a read.

Seriously dude, this board hasn't changed one iota. There have always been differences of opinions as well as flaming on players, teams and posters.

I suggest that you save that wall for next season if all three players return. Can you imagine what would happen if expectations are very high, but that team flames out? This topic of SN, RB and DD leaving is nothing more than glass shaking in Uconn's earthquake events. A bad performance next season with all players returning would be a disastrous set of events. Think of George ducking Mason!

Success breeds an idiot element made up of fanboy ignoramuses. Witness Pink Hat Nation in Boston.

This place fell apart when that guy nyhuskyfan left. What a brilliant mind and sharp wit. And handsome too!

Why don't you re-incarnate? what is this crap-" Gurleyman", anyway?:)

And what is with all this talk about a FF next year if everyone comes back. Will we be good..YES..maybe top 20, but we will not be a top 10 talented team without some serious improvement on our front line or finding a diamond in the rough in our big man recruits. We will most likely have a tougher schedule. (no depaul and providence twice).

We had 7 overtime games. What happens if they go the other way and Bazz doesn't have 55 points in OT. Every game we played...even the dregs were close games. Our margin for error was tiny. If we get into foul trouble or injury (like at the end of this year), we could pill up losses.

I think we end of with a similar record as this year, but we will need good matchup in the NCAA for a title run. Time will tell...

The Daniels leaving idea is obscene. That ain't happening

Agreed. And yet he would be drafted higher than either of the other two.

I think you are reading board wrong ....sure some people say dumb things but most think Bazz, Boat, Daniels should return. People feed off what the players say and all 3 in various ways are saying the are considering entering the draft. Ofcourse all 3 of them would benefit from another year at UConn but it's their life and it's up to them....I think all 3 return.

I can't speak for others. All I can say with certainty is that there are potentials for next year. One very unlikely potential is that something happens to the world and there is no season. Now that I have that out of the way the remaining potentials are UConn wins every game next season (low probability), UConn loses every game next season (low probability) or some combo of wins and losses (very likely). How many wins, how far UConn goes in the tournament, how high the team is ranked is purely conjecture.

As far as talk about the final four next season that is conjecture. And it is conjecture that UConn is a top twenty team next season, although with a higher probability of that happening than getting to a final four. Making projections isn't the problem imo. It's insisting that projections are something more than possibilities. Predictions aren't etched in stone.

You point out how little margin there was from this wonderful season to one that could have been very disappointing. But you failed to point out the other possibility if SN had not been injured with the shoulder or ankle and if the refs made the correct call in the Marquette game.

And that is how life works. There are some things we can factor in our life's predictions. But there is too much uncertainty, too many unknowns, to predict events with accuracy. It no longer surprises me how many people fail to grasp this. Of course understanding it still doesn't always help those gut wrenching events that impose themselves on us unexpectedly. But in sports no one should be surprised. There are far too many seasons in which the unexpected has happened both positively and negatively. And UConn fans have been very privileged to experience both.

Rumor(s) had it that "nyhuskyfan" underwent some drastic and dramatic personal changes, the nature of which he didn't reveal but MAY be indicated by his altered handle.....;)

Why don't you re-incarnate? what is this crap-" Gurleyman", anyway?:)

Not in ny anymore, and don't really identify myself as a New Yorker, so it was a poor choice of handle. I was raised a Gurleyman. Had my family taken the other house, I'd have been raised a Horsebarn Hiller (or Horsebarner, for short). Not all that much better, handle-wise, but we would have been able to walk down the street to go sledding in winter.

Perhaps Dog Lane would have been ideal.

Ill kinda have high expectations if we return 3 potential all league players. Lets not write off how well Ollie coached because of OTs. The high expectations stem from napiers return and his physical ability; Im a crazy person but I think hell be the best pg in college healthy.

Whoever replied about Ricky Moore posts pre 3/29/99 was spots on (I think it was tzandrew).

People here were brutal ... Until 77-74. The very same people had better hope I never create an archive of their posts.

If I ever meet Ricky Moore, I will personally apologize on behalf of the 'yard. The same goes for pretty much every former player.

I've received several email over the years asking if former players have ever posted on The Boneyard. Not that I know of (Justin posted once, but that was before he graduated, I believe) ... I know of no player who hasn't been brutalized at one time or the other. I have no idea why they would post here. Would you?

Well that explains it! Although Dog Lane would have been cool. Anyway, you know that I've always liked your posts through the years no matter the handle!:)
