This is how it starts. Probably happened at Kentucky when Bryant left (from a much higher perch of course) and happened at Duke after Spurrier left and Kansas when Gale Sayers/Mangino left..

Everyone talks about how great the basketball is as a fall-back. They stop going to the football games as much. They stop caring. Purgatory ensues.

If basketball ends up in a watered down league I'm sure people will start switching to the Bruins and Celtics .... thats the real purgatory.
