Because of huge importance that WCBB is accorded by the sports media, the ESPN poll on who will win the UConn - USCar matchup is still the featured poll for ESPNw a week and a half later. No reason to move on to any other subject when games versus #1 and #2 come along so infrequently, like previously since the last NC game.

But while the poll is still flying, it does let you see how the country voted state by state, with UConn winning the electoral vote with a huge blue presence vs. USCar's reddish garnet spots by 392-31, with a recount needed for Georgia's 15 ballots since the state split their 185 voters evenly at 92 for UConn, 92 for USCar, and one who was split down the middle, apparently by a falling tree limb as he pondered the choice. The popular vote was split 67%-33%.

Three of the four states who favored a USCar win were certainly understandable as South Carolina (home fans) went 83%-17% for USCar, Alabama (lack of good educational opportunities) went 58%-42% for the Cocks, and Tennessee (live in holes and hate UConn) went a fairly close 55%-45% for their new rivals. Reality and respect have sunk in for the other Southern states, as Mississippi gave 56% of the vote to UConn, Louisiana sent 62%, and the CT retirees in Florida pushed the Husky vote there to 76%.

For Homeland Security types, note that there are a bunch of Benedict Arnold traitors in Connecticut, as 26 voters in the Nutmeg State went for the Cocks, leaving CT's margin at only a second best 96%-4% for the Huskies. UConn's biggest supporters naturally are out in Nevada by a unanimous 100%-0%, as they appreciate all the big spending there by UConn fans in April after they vacation in Las Vegas with their pot of bracket pool winnings and their takes from hopeful but clueless Irish fans.

But one state stands out as a strange outlier, Montana, which went 59%-41% for the Cocks. The state does share a big border with a northern neighbor, so we could blame Canada even though Kia is doing well for the Huskies. And it's true that the sample size was only 17 votes, so we're talking about just 10 Ted Kaczynski Unabomber types here. But surrounding states like Idaho (76% for Huskies), South Dakota (60% UConn), Wyoming (56% UConn), and North Dakota (54% UConn) all stayed mainly sane and rational.

No idea what the reason for Montana's hostility toward UConn is. UConn has never played a Montana team, unlike with Idaho and the 105-37 rout in the 2013 Tourney opener. Could just be a small enclave of WCCB Unabomber-type fans hung up on stupid moves like Custer riding into Little Big Horn and wanting to make their state the Butte of jokes. Maybe they're just mad that no one from the state has ever been on Geno's squads, even though he's reached out as far as Alaska and the country you can see from there. Hopefully the people from the Big Sky region will start seeing Husky Blue soon.

Slight correction Dobbs Rover...5 states went for S.C. including Delaware (57% to Dawn and company). Possible reaction to EDD bashing on the Boneyard when she left UConn?

Nevada by a unanimous 100%= Gabby perhaps?
Maybe, and that certainly helped since the papers there had a lot about her signing with UConn, but I still think they love the money more. But at least UConn fans know they're spending it in a good place.

Oops, you're right. How could I overlook Delaware??? (Actually I needed a magnifying glass to confirm your correction.) Make that 389-34 for UConn.

But that's an easy one to explain. C-ocks and Hens, of course they stick together. And it's only 3 electoral votes, so no big deal, plus they did send EDD to UConn.

And just noticed that C-ocks is like s-e-x. The world we live in!

After a while many people start to dislike winners. Maybe that is what is taking place in this case.

Dobbs, with all due respect to you and your post, here are some of my thoughts, comments, and questions:

The poll was done before the game. Why would it not be reasonable to pick USC as a possible winner before the game? Is picking another team besides UConn to win a game mean that is not "sane and rational?"

Why does that mean it must demonstrate "hostility?" And if picking another team demonstrates hostility or is not sane and rational, why even bother playing the games in the first place?

As an example, had there been a poll before the UConn-Stanford game with similar results, those who picked Stanford would have looked like Kreskin and would have been called upon to pick lottery numbers for the masses.

The only time it is never sane nor rational to pick a team in a poll is when Joanne P. McCallie and Duke are playing UConn.

Who cares? There are only about thirty or forty people in Montana anyway.

Hmmmm. I thought we still had 50 people in Montana. Usually in these state by state polls there are 4 loyal UConn fans...period. I'm suspecting the oil shale oil field employment surge has brought in some southern ruffians!

Well, I have watched enough blow-'em-up action flicks to know you're either with us or against us, and Montana is definitely against us. Now I'm not advocating bombing them back to the Stone Age, mainly because I think that's probably where they're stuck anyway if they're voting against us, but I do think we should snub them dead if the Grizzlies ask for a game with us. The other states seem to either be with us or have at least some lame excuse to throw their lot in with the Gamec-o-cks, but it's no good having any truck with states where the people plainly got dropped on their heads at a tender age. No, anyone who thought the Gamec-o-cks were going to go to Gampel and beat the Huskies clearly had vacant areas in the cranium, and that's that. Even those folks down in North Carolina figured out who was going to win, probably based on a lot of past experience with their own teams.

And as you well know, the Stanford loss was just a necessary action needed to ensure that Geno got his 900th win at home, and the Huskies owed the Cards one for all of those recent heartbreaks and beat downs. That's not happening again because Geno's 1000th is a few years down the road.

So, I get up and brew the coffee and roam out onto the deck ... ah, 40- 50 UConn haters and me...love it. Oh, Ross Peak in the left center, and Sacajawea in the far left.

Behold the dawn!

We're all pulling for you to keep the faith alive out there among the heathen infidels who believe in the chicken god. And it looks like if they get a posse up to come hunting for you that you got some nice hills to head for. And thanks for getting 7 votes through for the Huskies.

Why thanks. Got 3/4 mile sight lines around the house and sightin' in another chicken killer at the local range tomorrow. Also have a real keen bunch of coyotes here that are really, as in Geno really fond of chicken.

Actually, blue2, I apologize for the smart-ass remark. I have only been to Montana once, and absolutely loved it, both the scenery and the speed limit. Of course, I was there in the summertime. Winter might possibly have been a different story. :)

New rivals? USC and Tennessee are big rivals in every sport plus tiddly winks. I'd say Tennessee is our overall 3rd biggest rival after Clemson and Georgia with Kentucky, Florida and Vandy close behind. There's also still a lot of bad blood with North Carolina.

Oooh, thanks for the softball lob on that one.

We are talking WCBB here, not football or women's softball or golf or tiddly winks. Maybe the Lady Vols fans could chime in about how intense a rivalry the Gamec-c-o-c-ks have had with UTenn, but UTenn is 47-3 against the Game-ones alltime, and 41-1 over the last 35 years. USCar had lost 38 in a row to the Vols before pulling the upset in Feb. 2012, and the Vols have won the last 3. Is that a rivalry? That's like saying UConn had a big rivalry with Seton Hall. Sure back in 1987 they did, but 43 losses in 44 games since then does not make for much of a rivalry, more of an association between a janitor and a mop.

So yeah, the G-c-o-c-ks are maybe a new rival for UTenn, but they definitely have to take care of expected business on Monday or the Vols fans will just be sniffing about another SEC team like Vandy or LSU that tried to challenge UTenn's supremacy in the SEC and ended up falling flat.

Offered in good clean fun I know. Funny thing about the weather - over the last few years New England has had a lot more winter weather. Snow in the mountains, but the valleys not so much. This winter positively balmy - most of January and February breaking records for hi temp. But keep it a secret. ;)
