A nice used Corvette (1999-2005) can be had around here for $18-24,000. They are far more affordable than most people would think. New ones, however start at around 60k decently equipped, and run past $115k for the big baaad variety.

I waited until I was 60 to get my first one, but wanted one since my semi-delinquent childhood. Now, I'm on Corvette #3. They ARE fun.

I, too, wanted one ever since '53 when the first one appeared. Had to wait until I was 58 and then bought a used '79 POS that was the biggest money pit of my entire life. My other friends with Vettes also have sad stories and all but one have gotten rid of them. I'll never have another one but they sure as hell are fun!

To be sure, there were issues with the first several years. But all three of mine were almost maintenance free. I've had a 2003, a 2009, and now the 2016. They have come a long way in quality and reliability. They needed to.
