With a thin team next year, I believe 9 scholarship players and one walk on.... what do you think the chances are that Geno might recruit a JUCO player, say a post player who can go in and help players like Stef, Kiah, and Morgan? A JUCO coming in for two years would not be a bad thing. But it has to be a JUCO that will play.... like a Rita Williams and not a Rashada Saddiq.

Juco.....zero. The Rita Williams [positive] example was unusual. She qualified academically for UConn out of high school but [as usual] Geno wanted some more assurance. He wanted her to 'prove it'....and she did so at Mitchell JC...staying there only one year and then coming to Storrs....that wouldn't have been permitted unless she was originally OK by NCAA standards.

At some point after Rita had graduated Geno offered the following:

Rita grew more on and off the court than anybody at UConn and that made her one of his all time favs.
He regretted not allowing her an academic redshirt her first year out of high school....that would have answered his concerns about classwork...and retained 4 years of hoop eligibility....and not the three she wound up with after Mitchell.

Repeat here: I remember reading that Rita was incredibly shy upon entering UConn....and by her senior year she would run up and down press row high fiving The Horde....completely confident and poised.

Wonder what Rita is doing now?
