He did good things while on our staff and has coached a Top 15 defensive secondary while at Georgia.

He was also my db coach my senior year in High School in 1988. He had just graduated West Conn and you could tell he lived and breathed football. He was an amazing motivator back then and I doubt much has changed.

I know he's not a "sexy" pick but curious if anyone else thinks he's worth an interview.

I think we could do better than a college position coach. Just,my,opinion. I did think he did well while here.

If Weist doesn't win the job, I think Warde will go after a guy a little bit more up the ladder. Either a coordinator at a good program or a head coach at a lower level. He also has to worry about how the hire is perceived by UCONN fans AND the CR world. He has an opportunity to make a bold statement to football schools that we want to have the same success on the gridiron that we have on the court.

I tend to agree. I think Warde is going to have to pick a coach that puts the hire on the back pages.

Or at least somewhere before the classifieds and Sodoku.

He was one of the coaches that Darius Butler tweeted about. Todd Orlando was the other.

If we go with a defensive coach then Lakatos would be fine, but I think we need an offensive coach, not defensive. Lakatos was a very good linebacker at Western and team captain. One concern I have is that he is 46 and is still just a position coach, not a defensive coordinator after coaching defense for 25 years.

I'll be surprised if it isn't a coordinator from the B1G, ACC or SEC.

Beware of the Bold statement. Cincy fans already hate Tuberville. Sizzle can quickly fizzle.

How this hire is perceived will be determined by wins and losses and nothing else. I want a coach not a name.

Very true. But I think there is a difference in W/L record in front of 30K vs. W/L record in front of 40K. If we're winning games 13-10, I don't think we're going to get the casual fan back to the Rent. If we win games 40-20, I think that might. And if we're playing games in front of 40K, that will get us noticed nationally. But I think your premise is right...we need to worry about winning games first before we worry about how we win.

I wish nothing but success for someone of the moral fiber that they would literally sneak out of a dinner with young men who are contemplating committing to their program so they can accept a job with a different program. How can you not root for a guy like that?! I'm interested to see how things develop there with him.

hey, it could have been worse. He could have come back and offered them scholarships to Cincy...On a serious note about Cincy, they seem to be falling off a cliff right now. Struggled to beat Miami of Ohio, lost to USF, got blown out of the building by an Illini team that is no more than average if that. I was never a big Muncie Legaux fan, but his loss was a pretty serious blow to that program.
