The narrative a couple Casual Fans were pushing was Fagnanao couldn’t play so he could focus on an all star game. But that’s the last week in January, so makes no sense. So if he doesn’t play it is more going on bad advice. But, like I said, can’t blame a player after the bad example Mora set.
Coaches and players, two different things.

I heard he was getting healthy and had been playing hurt in the last few weeks of the season.
Isn’t that part of playing football, especially late on the season.

The official UConn Football twitter account didn’t even make a game day post before the game yesterday. They didn’t tweet until like 30 minutes before the kick

Going to Fenway again was beyond a joke and I can’t believe the AD lobbied for it

Fenway was the right move: 22K people showed up. For perspective, Gasparilla with Memphis and NC State had only 13K.

The issue was players opting out and coaching transitions which soured the game and anticipation from the get go. Moving locations wouldn’t solve anything except maybe a more favorable opponent.

Iirc players started opting out AFTER it was decided we were going to Fenway. Yes, Mora leaving caused all momentum to halt heading to bowl season, but from all the smoke that came out, it's pretty clear the players were against going back to Fenway from the start. The AD chose the money that would come from Fenway over fielding a competitive team, and that is fine, but acting like nothing could have been done is an incorrect assumption.

I don’t believe for a minute that Fagnano would have played a down if he and his fiancé got to spend a few days in Boca instead of closer to home. Fenway 2.0 is just a suitable cover story for a few who just wanted the season to end post Mora.

I miss the college football that I grew up following/loving… I’m glad I still have the memories because those days are long gone each passing season.

My post wasn't solely about Fagnano. I mean how many players that dressed up didn't play one down? You don't think that had to do with the freezing cold and hard surface? Again, I don't blame the AD for choosing to do the financially responsible thing, but like I said, it was a choice that was made and the results were not pretty.

As was discussed in another thread, it could be that Benedict has a strategy to make UConn more prominent in the Boston area to get us into a P4 conference. At least, I hope that is the case for realignment purposes. New York and Boston.

I don't believe this.

But if the players still wish to benefit from revenue sharing, then maybe someone should point out to them that they need to participate in revenue generation.

Dan Hurley seems to have figured out a way to make in crystal clear to his players.

You are comparing a regular season game to a post season exhibition. I agree that if the players were given a slice of the bowl payout then you would solve a lot of issues, but for one reason or another, it hasn't been done yet.

Or withhold some of their money if they don't play.

No I am not. Strawman.

Agree. Joe was gonna bolt right after the regular season ended. At least he let us know.
I’m upset as a ticket holder, alum, and fan, that the staff was in lockdown and we got no news. I assumed Evers was going to play but apparently he opted out. (@ZooCougar mentions in another thread he left after a couple weeks practicing with the 1s). WTF?

It was not a secret. His mom basically spilled the beans.

Why isn’t Evers in the portal? He’s never going to play here again.
I have known this but have kept quiet. Evers went home for Thanksgiving and never came back. The coaches had to reach out to him to find out what was going on.

AWOL Wow. I think he could have kept the game competitive but apparaently felt his teammates showing up weren't important. Kinda makes Fagnano look better by comparison but whatever. Just go home and sulk.

Saying he was going to transfer. Playing in the bowl game mentioned?

From my point of view at the game, our guys were playing hard, especially in that first half while the game was still in the balance. Aside from Bell only playing the first drive, there were basically no surprises about who didn’t play much. The defense was mostly intact, and all the skill guys on offense who we expected to play did play

Define “mostly intact.” Best I can tell we were down 5 starters and a number of backups.

How is he a grad student if he didnt come back for finals?

Someone made it sound like he was the #1 in practice for the bowl game, then he ghosted the team. That sounds like he never #1.

After being told that our entire defense was still on campus practicing for the bowl game, I was a bit surprised by the number defensive players that did not appeared to have played in this game .

Don’t worry. People will make excuses for unnecessary leading people on because “the game didnt really matter.” (disclaimer: it counted on our record and was our only ESPN appearance of the season).

The new normal! Just accept it. Don’t ask any questions.
