What’s next immediate need? PF or Center

This last spot is gonna be very interesting -

Looking at the available portal option - not many fit. The best fit would be a guy like Allen Graves from Santa Clara but I don't know if that is the route this staff goes. I would love to add that level of piece from a competitiveness standpoint, but outside of him, the only guys I see possibly fitting the bill would be the following:

Jordan Burks - 6'9/205 from UCF - 13ppg/6rpg and 37% from 3
Justin McBride - 6'8/235 from JMU - 15/6 and is a 40% 3pt shooter and 50% from the floor
David Fuchs - 6'9/230 from SF - 13/8 per game guy

Issue is none of these offer a TON defensively.

Maybe Dylan Grant from Rutgers, but he is on the lean side, or Robert Miller III from LSU.

Otherwise its overseas we go... I am thinking Saliou Niang, Michael Ruzic, Alexandros Samodurov, Mouhamed Faye
6'8 with some girth and can shoot the 3 sounds pretty good.

I'm thinking we are leaning overseas with this.

Just not sure why you are stuck on a player that is gone - better off focusing on what you do have and put some faith in the staff.
I have read this back and forth for pages now and neither of you have addressed the crux of the issue.

The main thing that determines success when playing for Dan Hurley is 1 thing----and it has nothing to do with anything on the court----MENTALITY. Reibe was a questionable take in that regard from the get go--- but, Hurley thought he could instill it in him. Ultimately, he could not. If your response to what happened to Reibe late in the year and the NCAAT is what it was ---- then it just aint gonna work with Hurley. There is one thing you cannot be, especially as a big for Dan----that is SOFT. Reibe was soft. If your response to what happened in the NCAAT with him is not to hit the gym and the weight room even harder ---- "theres the door". Aint gonna work with the culture Hurley has built UCONN on.

It’s a very hard sell. This guy has to be happy getting anywhere from 15mpg to 0.
Any near the end of the bench players on "good" teams that are lost in the shuffle, had good ratings in high school, and want a change of scenery? That scenario seems the best, under our known situation.

.-.
Fuchs, Niko Bundalo Ole Miss, and Aaron Bradshaw good buy low high upside guys that are all 6’9 and above and play the 4….
I don't want anything to do with Niko. He sounds like a headcase. I wouldn't mind making runs at the other 2.

The day Hurley is willing to take on a kid that comes off like a locker room distraction for the talent would be the first.

Sorry, but have not gone back in this thread.

Are we in the hunt for any of Momcilovic, Graves or Yessoufou? I realize monies here are likely an issue.

What about Machot?

As to others that are available:

McBride - James Madison
Weeks - Southern Miss
Fuchs - San Francisco
Walker - South Carolina
Miller - LSU
Bradshaw - Memphis
Jarusevicius - Nebraska
Bundalo - Ole Miss

Any smoke with any of the foregoing?

Thx

I think the short answer is no. If anything, any addition will probably be a guy you’ve never heard as a depth piece or end of bench guy. Certainly not any of the top 3 remaining transfers, or even a McBride level player.

That would be fun, but likely unaffordable. We can dream.
Depends entirely on how much the powers that be want the best odds for a NC. We've come this far. Diop represents the incremental commitment to make us the favorite or at least in the top two or three teams. I think we may very well be in serious contention the longer this goes on. We have an awful lot to offer a guy with unlimited potential. NBA ready. Gino's probably already stacked. Mens turn. Let's go.

.-.
Some of the reasons why Hurley is loved and respected so much by the fan base. It is not only about the championships. Most people identify with earning and working hard for the success than spending someone else’s money. It carries to the team’s culture and how we all feel about Danny.
UConn succeeds because Hurley and his staff embrace the hard work of player development and do it better than the vast majority of their peers. That's part of the beauty of what he has built here.

THIS!!

I think it was also about who we could get as a backup 5 due to our NIL situation. Hines is basically a Tarris clone. We are just replacing a McDonald's all american with Giltay who is different but I think it has more to do with NIL too why we got him instead of a bigger name Center. Not saying we would be looking for a Reibe clone but I think talent wise we would of wanted better if we could afford it. Giltay is fine as a backup 5 and have no issues with him considering or current budget.

Why all these references to “our NIL situation” and “current budget.” We’ve got plenty of money. The issue is you’re looking for a guy who’s willing to come here to be a backup and some people are completely unrealistic about what that means in terms of the players you can target.

It’s like someone throwing out Graves’s name right now.
