At the start of the year, there was never any question that UConn would go bowling this year. The only question, really, was how many P4's UConn would beat, of the three on the schedule.

Fast forward to today, the morning after the 5th game on the schedule, and we still do not have a good take on this wildly inconsistent UConn team.

While no one here would concede the remaining two P4 games, no one here would take a bet on UConn at even odds or zero spread either at this juncture. So that leaves us with the remaining five G5 games on the schedule to look at. Need three wins out of that group. On prior form FIU, UAB, and AFA look the most likely, at this juncture, to provide wins. Rice and FAU are more problematic.

Bottom line? The odds have shifted back in UConn's favor to go to a bowl game this year. But will prior form hold? Probably not, but things can just as easily break UConn's way as not. The one INDISPUTABLE conclusion one can draw is that that was one helluva'n important win yesterday.

Difficulty tier of opponents:

Tier 1- unlikely to win
@ Boston College
Duke

Tier 2- 50/50
Air Force
@ Rice

Tier 3- Tricky but should win
@FAU

Tier 4- Should win
FIU
UAB

With a home win next week (which is likely) should be bowling again this season (would put the Duke game as tier 2 fwiw)

Air Force is 1-3 with only a win over a pretty bad Bucknell team. I know a lot of you guys get all gushy when we play military academies but this is a tier 3 at worst. Especially in East Hartford.

I think Air Force is going to be a terrible matchup for us.

Yes, hopefully we are bowling, but probably in the Bahamas against directional Michigan.

could be a nightmare for this D, missing tackles as they do, and without much push up front. also throws it pretty well, so its not like playing a one dimensional option team like Army.

I still give us a 50/50 shot.

For better or worse I think this team plays to its level of competition. This likely will result in a lot of one score games late, so in my mind wins are going to be the most important stat, and being comfortable in close games late will hopefully turn 4th quarter coin flips into 60/40 or even 65/35c but we’ll see!

Rice & Air Force are terrible matchups for the defense as the team stands currently, if they can start to stop running attacks then they are games that should be wins... but at this point, they are games that you can't feel confident about (frankly not sure there are any games to feel confident about, but a lot of "should wins")
