Minnesota continues to draw well.

I just realized their problem. It’s an even-numbered year. They win championships only in odd-numbered years. ;)

It was a good week for several teams in the WNBA.
  • Washington crushed its previous attendance numbers versus Dallas on the 11th - 11,364! That nearly twice their average and nearly 3,000 above the previous best. Was it Free Beer Night or something??;)
  • On the same night, 2-10 Indiana drew 10,006 versus the Lynx... about 4,000 above their average. For the worst team in the league, that is remarkable no matter what they might have been giving away.
  • Dallas at LA drew a league-wide season record crowd of 13,502 on the 12th. This is the 2nd time LA has topped the 13,000 mark this season. Other than the Sparks, only the Lynx (versus LA) have hit 13,000+ this season.
  • The same week, in games against NY and Phoenix, the Sun drew 7,413 and 7,696 respectively (1,000+ over average). The Sun trail only LA, Phoenix, Minny and Seattle in attendance this year. :)
Unfortunately, despite the remarkable parity, and some new teams making serious playoff runs, the WNBA over-all 2018 average is lagging the last two years by over 1,000 attendees per game. :(
Also, three of the hottest teams in the league right now (the Wings, Aces and Dream) are in the bottom third of the league in home attendance. Atlanta has always had poor attendance, and despite the success, the Aces are not trending well, drawing under their average for the last 5 home games. Surprising, considering how the city embraced the NHL team.

I went to the Dream/Mystics game in Atlanta yesterday and the attendance was abysmal. That was the 2nd Sunday afternoon game I've attended there and they were both poorly attended. The announced attendance was 3800 and the actual was probably 3000. The Aces play there on a Tuesday night or I'd say there would be a large contingent there from Columbia. They will probably still get a bump that night.
