Weekend Arrest Led To Suspension Of UConn's John Robinson IV
Mike Anthony
The suspension of UConn football player John Robinson IV, announced Tuesday by coach Randy Edsall as the result of a violation of team rules, comes after his arrest early Sunday morning on charges of driving under the influence and operating a vehicle while using a cellphone.
Robinson, 20, of Englewood, N.J., was pulled over by UConn police on Discovery Drive at 12:07 a.m. Sunday. Officer Zachary Gonzalez smelled alcohol and Robinson failed a field sobriety test, according to the arrest report. The report did not indicate whether Robinson submitted to additional testing.
UConn spokesperson had no additional comment Wednesday other than to say the team was aware of the arrest and it had been addressed.
Robinson, a redshirt sophomore safety, has been suspended two games, making him eligible to return Nov. 11 at Central Florida. He has two tackles in three games this season.
