Week of 2/5 Other Games

This is kind of my point -- Miami, by virtue of overachieving in the Tournament last year, was given undue benefit of the doubt that they would have no problem replacing that production. This often happens to teams that have unexpected runs.

In 2022 UNC almost (and should have) won the championship as an #8 seed. They were given credit for that 6 game run more than they were downgraded for a mediocre performance over 30+ previous games, and assumed that the 6-game run and not the larger body of work would carry over into the following year. Well, look what happened.

Frankly, we this year are the rare exception of a team that unexpectedly dominates, is ranked highly the following year mostly on reputation, and then actually outperforms that ranking.
Miami also made the E8 in 2022 and lost to the eventual title winner Kansas, it's not like last year was a flash in the pan

I believe that Wong was a member of each of those teams.
He was and also Jordan Miller but they still returned a core that was expected to be a tourney team and right now they're not

It's going to be interesting to see how Purdue, Kansas, UNC are if Edey, Dickinson/McCullar, Bacot miss extended periods of time.

Nah they were never that good
Well, they went to an elite 8 and a final four in back to back seasons, so they must have been pretty good. Larranaga seems to be on a pattern there where he puts together a pretty good team, falls back for a couple of years, then has another pretty good team built up. Seems like he is on the down part of that cycle right now.

Embarrassing crowd for the Johnnies tonight.

DePaul within 7 with 5:35 left in the first half.

SJ managing a 9 pt lead over DePaul at the half.

30 minutes til tip off.
Johnnie's up by 20+ with 11 minutes to go.

Realistic chance UConn tips off by 8:35.

If there's any game where you don't need a home court advantage, it's vs DePaul

Johnnies up 20
Fans should still show up. I think we ended fan interest for their season.

Switched to Rutgers/Maryland for the few minutes before our game

1 minute left. Rutgers 52, Maryland 49
Yikes

Cormac Ryan is a "fake" shooter, feels like every time I watch UNC he misses a bunch of good looks from 3. I can see him having a lights are too bright moment in the tourney
He had one season out of 5 so far that he shot 40%. The other 4 seasons he's averaging 32.5%.

For the mid-major fans out there, the Big South has arguably its biggest game of the season tonight as High Point (20-4, 9-0, 120 KenPom) visits UNC-Asheville (15-9, 7-2, 166 KenPom).

Rookie head coach Alan Huss has quickly ascended High Point into one of the best mid-majors in the nation. Elite rebounding team (top-20 in both OR% and DR%) and they have three legit bucket-getters that can attack the rim at ease: guards Kezza Giffa (16.9 p) and Duke Miles (19.1p) and power forward Kimani Hamilton (14.7p), who is a transfer from Mississippi State. Minnesota transfer guard Abdoulaye Thiam can create his own offense too (11.2p).

Head coach Mike Morrell has steadily built UNCA into one of the most consistent programs in the Big South. Fifth-year center Drew Pember (21.0p, 7.6r, 3.5a, 1.0s, 1.9b, 35.7 3P%) is an elite rim-protector and will have his hands full defending the rim against High Point's attackers.

6:30 on ESPN+. Should be a good one.

I saw on Kenpom High Point has the nation's longest win streak, and we are 2nd. So I guess go UNC-Asheville.
