Week 8 Games: non UConn

FIU up on W. Kentucky 19-3 late 2nd quarter

FIU is playing at Western Kentucky but an interesting fact about FIU's stadium. The stadium as of 08/06/24 is known as Pitbull Stadium because Pitbull is paying $1.2 million per year for the naming rights

Starting FIU QB looks to be out for the rest of the game.

That's too bad. I looked him up earlier, Keyone Jenkins from the Miami area. I didn't see the FIU v UConn game. Apparently he committed early to FIU, then committed to Auburn, then committed to and went with FIU in 2023. Entered transfer portal in 2024 but withdrew. Bunch of high school accolades.

2,414 yards freshman
2,557 yards sophomore
775 yards junior and counting

FIU 25-6 in the 4th. They gotta hold on.

25-6 FIU over W Ky, who beat Delaware
Seems like we might be getting hot, yes?
Game was not even that close either with how many red zone field goals FIU kicked. The team is definitely gaining momentum and it cannot be understated how important it is that Joe is running a bit now. That FIU team looked completely different this week, though inconsistency and unpredictability is the nature of lower G5 football

Hard to know what to think. I wonder if that injury on the opening kickoff deflated FIU to some extent, because they did not look like the same team vs WKU.

Hen's fan on tonight's chicken fight, blue hens vs gamecocks. yeah, I'm reading cusa message boards!

"My whole "mental model" of the conference has gone to after watching last night's FIU @ WKU game.
How in the world did we beat that FIU team?
How in the world did we lose to that WKU team?
My reality has been shaken!
Felt pretty good about this Jax State game until last night. Now, I have no idea what to expect!
It's like I'm sailing through the Bermuda Triangle and my compass is just spinning around and around.."

Or, more precisely, FIU's QB Jenkins was good. Then, he was injured, left the game. FIU's offense became offensive, their ex-Holy Cross QB was not good, and UConn's D stepped up.

That’s because all these teams (including us) are about the same. So it comes down to matchups or who woke up on the right side of the bed. It also comes down to consistency.
Or hopefully our defense is gelling and we would beat them now. Not stating that as a fact, but that would be nice.

I think this is true, It feels like you saw the impact of the all of the turnover on the defense in the first few games. They seem to be settling into the 3-3-5 much better now. I would think the Deleware would have a different result if played now.

But….looking at the box score…Minicucci (must have been a fun name to grow up with) passed for over 400 yards with a TD and no picks. So it’s not like Jacksonville ST shut them down.

This game is making our OT loss in Newark look even worse.
Delaware probably played/practiced much harder towards our game and rode momentum through FIU. I’m starting to think that game was flukey, based on points allowed in other games (and yes, I know our defense is a problem).

CCSU: 13 (special teams blunder gave them an easy TD)
Cuse: 20 (regulation)
Delaware: 38 (regulation)
Buffalo: 17
FIU: 10

Seems more like UDel’s offense played out of their minds/our defense had an especially awful outing

Missed a major opportunity to promote the Manicotti versus Fagnano matchup.

Delaware's pre-snap motion gave us fits and often led to a glaring hole somewhere on the defensive side that they were able to locate and exploit.
