Hey hey hey BYers! Just a few weeks left in the year (shriek!), and some upcoming top 25 games that will have some of us on the edges of our seats. Note that some of the rankings may not have trickled down on all days from the ESPN website, so ¯\(ツ)

Three top 25 matchups this week:

Appreciate the diligence and colour coding. The analytical part of my brain loves it!

Looks like Stanford didn't exactly run away from UTSA. 62-57 final. Roadrunners were 7-1 coming into this, maybe they're fairly good? Jordyn Jenkins certainly wouldn't have been intimidated, having played against the Card while she was at USC for 2 years. But she had a rough game, 5-18 shooting.

Alabama at Michigan State could be a fun game to watch. Too bad it looks like it won't be airing on any network.

Refs were letting everything go on D and calling offensive fouls like crazy, so it turned into a bit of a mugging, which, needless to say, is not generally Stanford basketball. And for reasons that have never made sense to me Karen Aston often seems to have Stanford's number. I had forgotten she was back in the coach's saddle at UTSA, although she often ventured so far into the court during plays I wanted to lasso her.

My favorite part was then they announced that Stanford was 1-4 all time against the AAC. That includes a 1-3 record vs. UConn during “those years” plus a loss to USF, I believe.

Improved to 2-4! The ACC is looking up.

This isn't quite the Florida Gulf Coast we're used to. Fell to 7-3 tonight, and they haven't played the kind of tough schedule they usually do. Losses are to Davidson, Columbia and Montana St. They've beaten Cincinnati and Georgetown, but they usually line up several games against ranked P4 teams plus some of the other top mid majors. Nothing noteworthy coming up and they are about to start ASUN conference play.

Their other loss was to Texas AM, so no not very good.

Anyone know why Lauren Betts isn't starting and hasn't entered today's game against Cal Poly? I did a quick Google search and found nothing.

Interesting game down in the dirty t. The kitties Cunningham takes 12 minutes to foul out Beh takes 18 to foul put and no Jones.

No worries as Barnes lined up mighty Weber State and the remaining kitties take the W by 21.

Looks like the kitties may be joining the Devils and Cougs in the Big 12 basement as these teams lead the conference in losses with 4,5 and 7. And all three have played a Kim Mulkey non conference schedule.

Oklahoma vs. Michigan tomorrow is intriguing to me.
I doubt Michigan can stop Beers, so they're going to have to rely on their offense to outscore Oklahoma. I don't see that happening but it isn't impossible. I have a feeling Oklahoma is going to win by a comfortable margin.

The Sun Devils winless on the road visit the Dons of San Francisco who are undefeated at home. Clearly something's going to give. The Sun Devils open the game scoreless over the first four minutes 30 seconds and trail 20 to 11 at the end of the quarter.

No one will be surprised if the lead holds for the Dons. ASU sitting two starters Ice Brown and Jackson.

A forgettable quarter in a season of forgettables for the Sun Devils as they shoot 20% from the field and are destroyed on the boards by the Dons 8 to 17.

I just live for these digs at "the dirty t" and the "kitties" :p

With no Betts, Gardiner comes off the bench and gets 16 minutes. Ugh, not a fan of what Close is doing with her.
Gardiner sustained a minor injury in the second quarter after a collision with a Cal Poly player. Had to get treated away from the bench. Coach Close also said she was held out at Long Beach State because she was recovering from a bug that affected the team last week. Timea played a bit in the second half but she appeared not to be 100%. Saw her immediately after the game ended and she walked with some discomfort.

So at least yesterday Close limited Tinea’s minutes because she wasn’t 100%. She still scored 11 pts and grabbed 6 rebounds.

Timea averages 20.8 minutes per game similar to Barker’s 20.9 mpg and a minute less than Dugalic’s 21.9 mpg. She started 5 of the 10 games she has played. Averaging 9.1 pts per game, 5th most on the team.

So what is Close doing with her that displeases you?

She must either be slightly injured, or in the dog house? She played well for UCLA early on.

They did not need Betts or Gardiner to win that game though.

Soooo the Dons end the fourth quarter with four successive missed layups. This level of play seemed to energize the Sun Devils and they take advantage for a 46-40 lead into the 4th quarter.

So you may ask yourself were the Sun Devils able to hold the lead and finish the game. Don't make me laugh. Ty Skinner who scored 27 for ASU attempted to overcome a four-point deficit in the last minute single-handedly, and while she hit two threes it was not to be and..... she like her team failed. Faceplant comes to mind

So the Sun devils did not regress but stoically maintained their incredibly poor level of play. This ineptitude has been consistent over the previous 2, 20 loss seasons and continues. And continues. And continues.

No surprises as the Sun Devils remain winless on the road and are on cruise control for another 20 loss season.

Didn't realize there was an injury. That makes sense for last night's game and prior games.

Still, she's being used as a floor spacer primarily. That's it. She's a great stretch 4 no doubt, and her next to Betts will be great for the next two seasons. She has a lot more to her game though, and so far it hasn't come out at UCLA. She has a nice mid range game and can also score on the block. She's one of my favorite non-ND players, and I think she has pro potential. I hope she gets to show her game more than just a stretch 4.

My takeaway is that the Sun Devils haven't won in the Bay Area since......2018. A long streak for a program that had some solid years under CTT. Arizona State just doesn't have anything outside of Skinner - and even Skinner doesn't exactly look to include her team in her play sometimes. On the last possession, San Francisco felt like they ignored EVERYONE else and had everyone chase Skinner around.

A solid win for the Dons - but they'll need to fix that lack of outside shooting before WCC play if they want to have a reputable finish in the league.

As for the Sun Devils, they're just happy they have UCF, SMU, Cincy, and Houston in their conference this year to potentially get some wins in conference play as opposed to the tough as nails conference they ditched.

Arizona state lost again??? Why do I keep trusting them?
A new fan?

Never seen them play in person over the last three seasons?

They are to be trusted but to lose and to play badly while they lose.

Adair is a fine person and was a competent mid major coach. She's just way over her head. This was obvious midway through her first 20 loss season two and a half years ago. Not a game goes by that doesn't confirm that she's a very nice person and in way, way over her head.

To be fair, some teams haven't even played a true road game yet. Tennessee is just one example.

I thought ASU looked slightly (emphasis on slightly) improved in their wins over Oregon State and SMU in the Briann January classic. Not great measuring sticks, I know, but you take your Ws where you can get them.

The losses to Coppin State, UC Davis and San Fran are, well, troubling even if they were on the road. The game at hellishly horrible Houston will be THE golden opportunitiy to get off the road game schneid.

What on earth would have prompted you to ever trust them in the first place?

No, I am a season ticket holder. I was hoping to see some improvement this year. I guess I will be attending games mostly to see the other teams. ‍

"No Lauren Betts today. Precautionary, minor lower leg injury."

For what it's worth, she looked fine walking around the court.

Her absence really transformed the Bruins from a great team to merely a pretty good team. Also, the game felt like it was "garbage time" from the opening tip. There were several "novel" lineups involving the freshmen, Timea Gardiner noticeably appeared to have a minutes limit (which might have been going on already, but the rotation was deep enough that it wasn't that evident), and players sometimes looked a bit confused as to what their role was.

Coach Close commented that the game plan went out the window due to poor execution (lots of missed shots, defensive breakdowns, etc.). Frankly, the opportunity to make the players "uncomfortable", particularly the freshmen, was probably a long term positive.

ASU took 71 shots and had 3 assists. Is that a record? Holy moly... Wow that's bad.
