Week 6 preview (Dec. 13-19)

Well, it's Thursday and another big matchup for NC State. Tonight, we'll try to notch our first win ever over a pretty good Georgia team. That matchup in the middle, Stati vs. Cunane, should be one to watch. Guard play will be crucial in this one.

NC State has been shooting the ball pretty well the last few games. We'll need more of that tonight.

I'm still waiting for Cunane to have that breakout, monster game this season. While she's been a monster on the boards, I've been sort of disappointed in her scoring in the paint. She's missed a lot of shots she would have made in previous seasons.

Of course, Coach Moore has been playing the reserves a lot to develop them and bring them along when NC State was ahead comfortably, which has limited Cunane's scoring opportunities, but I think we'll probably only see the key 9 (Cunane, Jones, Crutchfield, Perez, Brown-Turner, Johnson, Boyd, Hobby and Hayes) play most of the minutes tonight. I'd be very surprised if this was a runaway win for either team.

One additional tidbit: Should NC State win tonight, it will be the first time since the 1980-1981 season that NC State will have defeated three ranked teams in its first 12 games. That year, NC State defeated #9 Cheyney State, #10 South Carolina and #8 Texas in its non-conference schedule. Since Wes Moore arrived, NC State is 26-35 against ranked teams.

LetterL brings up an interesting point on Cunnane and expecting a breakout game that while I am not as close to this team as he is, I have watched them 3 times this year and quite a bit the last 3 years since Cunnane came on the scene. My view is the team is built more as a team now and not reliant on Elisa to do “everything” so she hasn’t been asked to score more as the ball doesn’t got to her as often as in the past. The other point is other teams make a point to try to shut her opportunities down as much as possible. The last point is this years OOC is significantly better that past years so the opponents defense and the fact these top teams have players as tall and as skilled as Elisa can limit her. I do expect her to show more dominance in the ACC but I am not convinced she is a first team AA at this point as there are too many other talented bigs on the list. She is on the periphery of the 10 member team but not sure she will ever achieve that “breakout” star aspect. She’s very, very good just not in the Aaliyah Boston category and has both Brink and Angel Reese coming on fast. There’s also Naz Hillman, Ny Smith all playing well.
Time will tell.

I was out in the backyard earlier... I spotted my neighbors Bulldog... she gave me the paws up... so she things UGA will pull it out. Hopefully she is wrong.

So maybe our PAC12 brethren can explain to me what’s the point of having a PAC12 Tv network assigned by region if they don’t show any of the OOC games on it?
Not sure when this mess of a TV deal can be realigned and organized like the SEC or ACC with + and X to the channel that allows multiple events to choose from but the current format “stinks” and makes it nearly impossible to be a fan to see the games.
Curse you Larry Scott, may pox be put upon you and your family!

Can't explain the unexplainable. PAC-12 Network sucks for us in the PAC-12 region. Worst website as well.

@LoTrader At the Duke game last night, a couple of Oregon State fans were in attendance with their gear on. They could have been the same people I spoke to a few years ago when OSU played in Cameron.... but I was too far away to tell.

Officiating could have been better. They called the foul that sent Q to the foul line in regulation but didn't call the foul on Staiti for the exact same foul in OT. But Georgia played very well and got the win on the road.

What I want to know about Georgia is, where is Maori Davenport?

I just finished Ga-NCState. It was a really entertaining game. Staiti and Cunane each had a great half. I don't remember Barker from last year. She looks like a keeper to me.

I had Georgia ranked on my preseason BY ballot, as did much of the BY; not sure why so many of the "experts" didn't. I really think the Boneyard voters have consistently done a better job than the AP and coaches.

Before the season, I thought NC State might drop a few games, given our tough schedule. We ended up going 9-2 in the non-conference portion of the schedule playing the toughest schedule in the country...both of our losses to ranked teams. One, in the first game..and the second by two points in OT. I still think NC State can go far. Too bad that second quarter was awful; it ultimately cost them the game.

If NC State had played the first half against Georgia like they did the second half, there would not have been an OT.

Can't take it back now, though. The only thing to do is to move forward and learn from mistakes to try getting better.

Just win your conference and you are guaranteed top 8 seed if not top 4.

A silver lining for uconn fans is that Georgia Tech beat Georgia, who now beat NC State. Boosts the resume of Georgia Tech, and makes our loss look a little less bad.

You can actually watch those untelevised games for free online. They're streamed by the home school. For example, to watch Arizona’s games, you go to Pac-12.com/live/university-arizona. Every school has these streaming sites that have up to 4 or so different streams.

As for that UCLA-TSU game, it was canceled. Covid-19 in one of the programs, but not sure which.

Causes an increase in UConn’s SOS in the NET computer algorithm - the ranking that the selection committee looks at.

She wasn't and could be a future prognosticator. Keep us posted on any other picks she makes!

I was a little surprised that the ball did not seem to find Diamond Johnson in the OT session.
