Week 4 - Nov 24-30

Well, she had a good game in their one win in Austin. She was not good in Columbia or Greenville.
20 pts on 22 shots with 4 turnovers, but I guess I'll allow it.

Should be an interesting matchup tomorrow.

I'm a Jordan Lee fan. That's another one of those coulda been gamecocks that hurt me a little. Overall, they seem a little better on perimeter and not nearly as good inside without Taylor Jones.

Not as much as she should have, because Close is not a great player development coach. Never has, never will be.
I can’t tell you one thing she does at an elite level. She doesn’t have many (any?) glaring weaknesses, but doesn’t look like much more than a draft-and-bench player to me at this stage.

Breya Cunningham has been fine at Texas but certainly fades on a team this talented. Can’t help but think she could’ve made an enormous impact at USC.

Drake appears to be way down this year. Just got hammered by Northern Kentucky by 20+, a team who was 1-6 coming into the game. Drake drops to 1-5. I know they lost Dinnibier, maybe they lost most of the team from last season.
"Down" would be kind; you're correct, they are not a good team this year. Allison is a decent coach but they have no players this year.
Such a tough level to recruit to these days.

Texas will be monstrous on the perimeter/wing next year with Booker, Lee, Preston, Crump, Critterdon, and Bjorn. Sheesh.

And, you didn't even list Madi Booker! Plus, a Top 25 national player in Aaliah Spaight who should log a lot of minutes at the point.

It's still 20 points. And, she added 11 rebounds from the SF spot. So, a double-double no matter how anyone dissects it.

It was actually Kyla Oldacre who was having a huge day against SC in Columbia with 11 points and 16 rebounds; Jones had zero points that day. The opposite happened in the SEC tourney. Both hit double-digit points in the win in Austin. Jones has the better faceup game, but Oldacre is tougher to move out of the low block.

Part of that might be that Vic is not trying to force the ball inside to the post players every possession; he seems to be giving his guards and wing players from freedom offensively.

Michigan puts up 100 again. Swords goes 3-10, 1-5 from three. Now 6-21, 1-9 from three since torching UConn.
And you point is? She played 20 minutes last night. She can't have a couple off games once in a while?

She had a 40% FG and 35% 3FG last season. Her current stats are in the same range. Don't understand what posting these stats does other than try to imply what she did was a fluke. If you haven't seen her play throughout her career, fine, but dang..... she can play and hold her own with the best of them. Doing this just seems petty to me.

GM fans - lesson learned. Only do the first few days for feast week and then fast follows to fill in all the TBDs as some tourneys are just play 2, and others are play and move on, so to speak. Six undefeateds play today. One is a guaranteed loss. Gobble gobble.

Trust me, I remember. Ha. It was very frustrating.

Pretty sure I've seen her play including at Lu-Hi.

Why does there have to be a point in noting performances? I just find it funny how she can barely miss even the most extreme shots against UConn time and again, then struggles against vastly inferior competition.

Petty? Hardly.

She has done the same thing against SCar and UCLA. Think she gets up for Playing an underdog role?

Ok, SCar scored 83 vs Duke which a bucket less that USF, but promising.

If SCar can get out of the 60s vs Texas I might start to get a little more comfortable.

Big game today for early November.

I believe this is a better Texas team than last year, but it isn't as big or deep inside.

I presume Texas will try to take away the paint as much as possible and make SCar prove its shooting.

Post passing will also be big.

I worry about Texas pulling away early for a second time in this tournament while SCar tries to figure their defense out with this relatively new team.

I don't think SCar is quite all the way there on either side of the ball to be honest.

Should be fun.

Kind of thinking this one is going to be a dogfight.

“Early November?” JK

Catching up on some of these games last night.

UCLA/Texas-Not going to read too much into this game other than a slow start by UCLA hurt them. Being down 23 points hurt plus only going 6 deep is not good either. Coach Close will rally this team into shape. Now if they lose to Duke, then alarms will start to go off but this was a heavyweight match and somebody had to lose.

Ohio State/West VA-That was a fun game. Both teams are sneaky good and I always love when anyone beats Ohio State, so I was rooting for West Virginia in this one. Sadly WVA gave the game away.

South Carolina/Duke-It is going to be a long season for Duke. On paper they look good and then they play the games, and you are like "Oh my". Coach Lawson has her hands full this season.

Michigan/Detroit-I have been following Michigan since I was 14 (1984) and Minnesota, this is Michigan most balanced team ever. Coach KBA has a well-balanced team. During the Naz era, it was all Naz, which was awesome. Naz Hillmon was a beast at Michigan. She put that program on the map, but it was give the ball to Naz and everyone else get out of the way. This team Coach KBA has is balanced. They have the very talented Sword and Olson but now Michigan has a confident Holloway, a healthy Delfosse, tough as nails Ashley Sofilkanich, and Macy Brown giving additional guard help. Michigan is going to make some noise in the Big Ten this season and hopefully a few more years. This team has talent.

North Carolina is putting it on South Dakota St. Jumped on them early and haven't let up. The Jackrabbits are usually really solid, seems like a decent quality win.

Carolina got handled by UCLA, but otherwise they've been putting the hammer down and not messing around.

edit--triple double for Nivar, with steals being one of the categories included; don't see that very often
