I'm guessing that the dirty t is VERY happy with the coaching change
I know you have your feelings, but Barnes got fans excited about Arizona basketball. They were packing the building and they were loud. Diminishing returns, but fans are pretty short sighted if they forget what it was like before she revitalized the program.

Attendance so far is averaging about 5300, down 1000 from last season and way down from a peak of around 7800 during Barnes' tenure. Maybe the fans in Arizona aren't THAT excited about the change?

Loree Payne has the Broncos bucking in Santa Clara -10-0 start over Fresno State, operating under a new coach - wonder what happened to Jaime White, I thought she was doing a good job there.

5-0 start - the attendance may be a result of the cupcakes - the annual attendance of 6300 last year was for ALL last year including BIG 12 games -- the ASU, TCU, Tech games all had between 7600-8600 fans, and the other BIG 12 games were above 5300, last year in early non conference the kitties played UNLV rather that the UC - Riverside/Irvine duo and the kitt fayns are ..... well they know their BB and they know their opponents.

Last year the kitties were 13th in attendance in D1 - a tribute to the dirty t - we'll see where they end up . . . we both know it will be significantly above the ponies draw.

I know that she would have liked to remain at her alma mater, but the run was over. I think following her summit - the double bird, it was slowly but surely downhill.

As my sister in law used to say of me and my brother - we are violently agreeing.

Something about the ‘fashionista’ moniker makes me a wee bit uncomfortable.

.-.
Can Washington St. finally get a win? 0-5 start. Just getting going against Missouri.
No, they cannot. Fell 71-54 to the mighty Tigers of Mizzou.

I don't know about currently, but The Pit used to be a tough place to play. Texas Tech comes to town and rolls to a 82-57 win. Maybe, just maybe, TTU could be half decent this year.

Is Jody Wynn back at Washington? Shooting 5-18 from the floor, 0-4 behind the arc, barely leading Vermont. This is like the good ol' days.

Yet again, no Ladine. Still not a peep from the school about her status.

Agara w/ a perfect game for Stanford--10-10 shooting, 1-1 behind the arc, 3-3 from the charity stripe. Their schedule has been not much so far, but hopefully they are bouncing back after an uncharacteristic season last year.

Hey at least Wake Forest is repping the ACC. Beat Western Carolina to improve to 6-0. Also have wins against Radford, Presbyterian, Hampton, Mercer and NC Central. 😄

Is that as lame as Iowa State's schedule? So far it's St Thomas, Southern, Sacred Heart, Valpo, Norfolk St, Drake, and Mercyhurst. They have Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa coming up.

Guess it is worse. Massey has Wake's schedule rank at....408th. I thought there were only 363 D1 teams.

.-.
UCLA pitched a shut out in Q2. Leading Southern U. 49-9 at the half.

I'm about ready for the real games to start! We've had a number of good match ups in OOC, but so many completely meaningless games like this.

edit--Close still tinkering w/ her starting lineup, today Gneepkens out and Dugalic in

Usually Missouri Valley teams are pretty good for mid majors, but I think several of them are down this year. Including Drake and Northern Iowa. Still it's cool that Iowa and Iowa St. play the other D1 schools in state each year and they do home and home AFAIK.

Broncos improve to 5-2 with a 81-63 home win over Fresno State. Former Lumberjack Sophie Glancy who had 19 double-doubles last year with the NAU in the Big Sky put up a double-double for Loree Payne. She was joined in double figures by Ava Schmidt current teammate and teammate last year at NAU

Okay, okay. Washington steadily pulled away in the 2nd half and comfortably up 30 in the closing minutes against Vermont.

.-.
Another "not what I would've expected" game in progress. 4-1 Idaho St. is getting trounced by 1-3 Loyola Marymount.

Kennedie Shuler piled up 14 assists for Oregon St. today!

Beavs needed a 24-7 4th quarter to pull away from what had been a very tight game with Long Beach St.

Its Portland, Jake

Oddly all of LMU losses ( two on the road) were by 4 points.

Considering that NC State’s big noncon games were most likely set before Pierre transferred, I think they overscheduled.
Wonder if she has had second thought? Or does NIL sooth.......

Absolutely, SMU did lose to two losers - North Texas and GCU - real, real ugly, and the loss to KSU at home was, well, a real choke and absence of coaching/leadership and the current kitties are beating the losers sooooooooo.

I'm guessing that the dirty t is VERY happy with the coaching change and in the big D there may be more than a little heartburn, I would guess even that big Texas oil money expects more for 5.85 million - I think the kitties are paying the ex Buffalo coach 750,000 so better results for less money.

Inquiring minds wondering if the fashionista can improve on the ponies last year's 10-20 record. After seeing the ponies in "action" last week against GCU, I have my doubts.
I'm not displeased with the new coach - but you really cannot tell much based on the competition. Adia was awful at teambuilding so far as we could see, but that seems to be a strength of Becky. But there isn't talent this year. We have a friend that used to coach women's basketball (not D1) and she agreed with our assessment that the talent level and style of play is upper mid-major. Some of the players look quite talented - until you remember the competition and compare them to the stars we have watched - McDonald, Prince, Pondexter, Carson, Vaughn over the years - or if you want more ordinary - even Cunningham, Williams and Swann last year.

Some fans aren't. But oddly, on the women's side, only the core fans are sophisticated about women's basketball. It will be shocking to most of them when the Big 12 schedule is much, much less successful. And I'll be shocked if it is anything better than mediocre success.

And I keep reading about the success being when McDonald was here. Well, duh - big stars can be very helpful for winning. I don't think Adia did a good job putting together teams (and possibly developing players and certainly motivating them) but for all that the fact is that many players were quite good and exciting, and she kept a winning record. I don't think she can be judged for this year any more than I think Becky can. The future will tell.

Considering the situation, who really knows? Being dismissed implies there was something going on that could be a behavioral or conduct issue, to me. There's a lot we don't know to say for sure.

Absolutely.... @KnightBridgeAZ may have more accurate details but I think she was not extended. That's the quiet way of being dismissed I suppose. There's definitely a lot those of us who are common fans don't know. What is clear however is at half the salary they may well have an upgrade.

Idk what she would be having second thoughts about. She starts and plays 30+ minutes every game. She gets 12-15 shots a game easily.

I think she has the ability to be the best player on the team - I think she also shoulders some of the blame right now. Her defense has been lacking, she makes steals and does things positive because she’s often the best athlete on the court. However her attention to detail and focus has been missing. She has been back doored multiple times, beaten constantly by Saurez against TCU and was struggling against Mbu yesterday to the point of being benched for Maddie Cox and the team moving Tilda to Mbu the rest of the game. Wes didn’t call her by name but did harp on players not buying in fully on the scout and specifically on defense. Based on substitution patterns and in game adjustments being made Pierre, Zoe and Qadance appear to players Wes is having frustrations with in this regard.

Overall I think she’s adjusting to a new environment. From my POV she needs to learn to trust her team mates a bit more. She gets doubled often and too often she forces up a shot or keeps pounding the ball trying to get to a spot. There are capable players around her to help shoulder the load. She did a better job yesterday at times of making that pass when it wasn’t there for her, it led to a made 3 in the corner once. If she does more of that, her offense will come much easier and the team will have better results as well.

State has joined Duke as riff-raff now.

Right now the team is lacking leadership. Wes even talked about culture after the game and it not being there yet with this group. I think he’s struggling to push the right buttons. He’s been playing the most talented 5 the most, but he suggested that may need to change. IMO the most talented 5 are all a little too laid back. Zam is maybe the exception to that. But Zoe, Pierre, Qadance and Tilda are all either a little too cool out there or too nice. Someone needs to get mad and demand it from their team mates. Who is going to show they hate losing? Who will take pride in shutting down their counterpart on defense?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more Destiny Lunan and let her work through freshman mistakes as well as more Devyn Quigley and Maddie Cox. I think Wes is looking to send a message to his starters that in order to play and keep your spot you have to want it. Follow the scout. Not freestyle out there but play as a team.

I still think State has the talent and pieces to be in the mix as normal by years end, but a leader or two needs to emerge from that locker room and some pride needs to be instilled.
