Week 19 - Championship Week

Today's schedule - one final, one semi, a few quarters and a bunch of early rounds

Looks like Montana St. made a little run at the end, but too little too late. Idaho gets the auto bid for the Big Sky.

My impression is that nobody has really dominated that conference for an extended time frame. Maybe someone has won the conference tourney back to back a few times, but mostly it changes every year.

Deep roots in Oregon. OSU was probably his dream job. He'd have to go faaaaar away to move up. Might not be worth it for him.
Also probably wants to see the transition to Pac 2.0, and see if the conference can return to semi-major status.
My thinking as well. Some coaches are pretty comfortable where they are at and want to see that particular program thrive and that is the vibe I get with Coach Rueck. He has been there 15-16 years, and he has definitely been the definition of "Be where your feet are"

Just add "recently" to your nobody dominating for an extended period of time. I don't know how long you have been following, but Robin Selvig had a long run at, IIRC, Montana.

Yesterday's upsets:
  • 5 Ohio over 4 Central Michigan
  • 3 SFA over 2 Lamar in OT
  • 7 Ark Pine Bluff over 2 Alcorn State
  • 6 Toledo over 3 Massachusetts

One more ticket to be punched today, two semis on tap. Go Navy!

You got me! Looking it up, Griz won the conference tourney 14 times from its inception in '83 thru 2000. Then 7 more between '04 and '15. Surprisingly that was their last trip. So my statement at least was accurate for the last decade. 😉

Yeah the MAC Tourney is interesting. Top 2 seeds advanced but after that it got a bit chaotic. Will Miami and Ball St. both win one more game so they can have a rubber match to determine the auto bid?

Oh boy, upsets in the WAC. It's a really weak conference anyway, but not good if the even remotely decent teams are getting beat.

14-16 Tarleton State beat Utah Valley and 12-20 UT Arlington beat Southern Utah. Both advanced to the semifinals.

Some upsets -
  • #3 SFA gets the ticket, wins over #1 McNeese in Southland finals
  • 6 UT Arlington beats 3 Southern Utah in WAC quarters
  • #10 Hofstra beats #7 Towson in CAA 2nd round

Only appropriate that in its swan song, we get one last Wacky WAC.

UTSA over South Florida in the American

Thankfully the NEC Championship will be Fairleigh Dickinson against Long Island, the only two teams from the conference with winning overall records.

Le sigh. My hubby's Midshipmen (both men and women) lose in the Patriot League tourney, denying them NCAAT bids. The upside is that this is the first time in USNA history that the M & W programs ended the season in 1st place.

  • #3 Long Island University beat 2 Mercyhurst in NEC semis
  • #10 Evansville beat #7 UIC in MVC 1st round

Today's schedule - 1 final and 8 semis.

In the Division II tournament, the mighty rams of Winston-Salem State advance to the second round.

#3 Norfolk State beats #2 Maryland Eastern Shore in MEAC semis

#4 Hawai'i beats #1 UC Irvine in OT, Big West semis
