Week 15 games (Mar. 1-7)

I see that "vastly improved" Butler (now 3-17) lost to Providence today (7-13). I guess Providence must be vastly improved too.

Former Sun Devil Eva Rudin with an offensive explosion (10 points) leading the underdog Illini to a strong challenge of Lindsay Whalen's Gophers. Illini leads 55-51 as the third quarter mercifully staggers to an end.

Former ASU Rudin paces the Illini with 16 points in their victory of Whalen's gophers.

Lobos withstand a late rally by the Rams and hold on to win 71-62 and sweep. Home cooking for the Lobos should give them the regular season Mountain West title.

Cal Baptist barely kept their undefeated streak going. 66-64 over Seattle U. today.

Lancers overcome 12 missed free throws, 19 turnovers, 2 for 14 shooting from Olaeta and hold off 11-12 Seattle U. Sometimes it's the smile of luck that keeps a team unblemished.

Lancer big Briteny Thomas came up big with 22 point on 9 of 11 from the field and 14 boards in 25 minutes.

Upset alert in the Summit - 5 - 12 Omaha leading the Jackrabbits by 5 at the half. One of the Mavericks 5 wins was the epic 2 OT 105 - 102 Feb. 6 shoot out over the Leathernecks in Omaha.

edit - early in the third Mavericks extend lead to 10

Looks like a big upset in the Summit, with Omaha ahead of South Dakota State by double digits with a minute remaining.

It's official. The Mavericks of Omaha knock out South Dakota State! 52-40. The Summit gets real interesting now, with the Yotes in play for an automatic bid -- and a potential at large. You definitely have to think that a bubble may have just burst given the lack of marquee wins for the Yotes in their OOC.

Hopefully that will knock out Mississippi State from the Last 4 In category. They don't deserve it with their record.

There's no doubt South Dakota State will take an at-large bid now. Their resume is just too strong, with wins over Missouri State, Gonzaga and Iowa State. This was a bad loss but who in the country doesn't have one or more of those.

I just hope the teams whose bubble just burst was a poser 5 team.

Yeah, agree that SDSU is in, I was just musing about whether the Coyotes of South Dakota would have taken up a bid if they don't win the tournament. The Yotes have a NET of 37, but.....there's no real wins of note on their resume to go with a loss to Oklahoma.

Oh my bad for careless reading. South Dakota would be highly doubtful IMO. Best win is over NET #87 Bradley (their only top 100 win). And any loss in the Summit tournament at this point would not be a good one (the next two best teams are #87 and #105).

It's too bad because the Yotes were quite competitive in their losses to South Carolina and Gonzaga, as well as in one of their losses to SDSU, but they couldn't come through.

Right. That's my thinking as well. Interesting that Creme has South Dakota safely in as a 10 Seed despite that resume. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out -- I'm secretly hoping for DU to sneak through and snatch the title.

Iowa beats Nebraska 83-75. Caitlin Clark had 35 points on 19 shots (5 of 10 from deep) and 8 rebounds.
She's found another gear. 30 or more in 7 of the last 9 games, and over 50% shooting from the floor in 6 of 9, both overall and behind the arc. I can't think of anyone playing better offensively down the stretch than her.

Here's the put-away:

Creighton upset Seton Hall 83-76 to advance to semis to face Marquette.

I like Bozzella but I won't mind not having to hear anymore about a certain Seton Hall player.

Here's the put-away:

You have to know she's gonna pull from that distance. The defender cannot be slacking off of her. Heck of a shot.

Mercer thumped Wofford in the SoCon final to punch their ticket to The Dance.

With everything else going on...I forgot to check on the Southland and there was a HUGE upset, and a terrible loss for Central Arkansas. Northwestern State gets its first win of the season, 50-45, to improve to 1-19 on the year. Central Arkansas, which went into this game in third place, fell to a tie for fifth place, with Nicholls.
