I'm gonna guess never.

Washington St. is probably bummed they don't play the Card anymore. Never beat them even once in all the years facing them in the Pac 10/12. This could've been the year!
Washington State played Stanford in non-conference, the second game of the season. Stanford won 94 65.

Doh!

That Stanford team no longer exists. They also blew out Gonzaga early on. Something has gone drastically wrong since early in the season.

The missing games will hurt Carneige, but I still think she is the leading contender. Fournier played well again today... 24 points in 25 minutes. Her FT stroke is much improved.... when she goes to the line now, I'm surprised when she misses.
Didn’t Carnegie miss only a few games. I was at the game tonight. She didn’t look like a great defender, but her 3’s killed us. She looked much better against UVA than Fournier did. But that’s just a two game sample.

You really don't like Mulkey and her 'kitties'. Sure they can lose to SC and TX, but I think that's about it.

Thanks AZ fans, stole your name.
Just to be clear, AZ fans don't call them the kitties. That's a thing with the fans of rival ASU. AZ fans use Cats.

No comparison between bayou and dirty t. Mulkey is several magnitudes above Barnes. LSU program is elite, kitties in the dirty t have a far, far, far lower quality litter

Correct. And to be clear there are far far more kittie fans than there are ASU fans now that the nice coach from Delaware and 2021 CAA coach of the year has driven ASU fans away in spite of her rebuild.

State of Arizona has fans supporting:

Grand Canyon, coached by the active coach with the 5th highest winning percentage and indisputably the best coach in the state - Molly Miller. Last loss on Nov 14 Grand Canyon should run their winning streak easily to 18 games on Saturday and they're favored in all the remaining games. Champion of the State of Arizona having beaten NAU ASU and the kitties this will be the only team from Arizona dancing in March.

Earned nickname - the Antelopes or Lopes are the champions of Arizona.

Northern Arizona University coached by Loree Payne the all-time winningest coach in NAU WBB history. After last night's win over the Eagles of Eastern Washington who include former Sun Devil Jamie Loera on the coaching staff the Jacks are 6-1 in conference with a huge game Saturday against fellow second place Big Sky competitor Idaho. While losing to the Lopes NAU did lay a load of hurt on the kitties up here at NAU to go 1-1 in the state.

Earned nickname-Lady lumberjacks, Jacks, or after last night Astro Jack.

Arizona State University - lost to everybody in Arizona: Grand Canyon, NAU, and most certainly will lose twice to the kitties. This once proud program is in the midst of a 5 game losing streak, a third consecutive 20 loss season, and the state of the program is reflected by the 28-9 first quarter against West Virginia which included a 3 on 0 break by WV as none of the current Sun devil players could be bothered to run down the court after the Devil offensive set that they stumbled through and resulted in the turnover and break out. The "game" played at the Mullet Arena hockey center on the campus of Arizona State University with 11,000 fans in attendance 10,851 disguised as empty seats.

Earned nickname- pathetic, laughing stock, embarrassment, Michael Crow legacy.

University of Arizona formerly known as UArizona formerly known as University of Arizona. McKale center located in the heart of the dirty t is the home for the kitties. While this program led by Barnes has lost this year to Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona University of the Western Athletic Conference and Big Sky conference and currently resides comfortably in the bottom third of the Big 12 they have a sweep of the ASU Sun Devils to look forward to. At 1.6 million dollars per year the kitties also boast the highest paid coach of women's basketball in the state of Arizona. This coach also boasts by a wide margin the best agent in the state and perhaps in the country.

Earned nickname-wait for it.....kitties.

Thanks for the history lesson!

I wasn't being team specific, just recognizing the whole Arizona, the state, fan group. The relentless sarcasm always has me laughing.

On the pro side, you have also brought us the 'million dollar coach'.:D

On the East Coast college coaching scene we have a game coming up with the $5 million coach vs $3 million coach.

And they won without Stuelke who is still under concussion protocol. For those who were able to watch last night, can anyone provide the insight as to what changed in how the offence flowed?
A big reason was the matchup. Washington defense gave them space instead of being up in their grille. They got O'Grady going in the paint early. Then went inside out and made first 6 threes. Already 15pt lead at that point.

After 5 close losses, there was no lull or letdown. Olson had her best Iowa game and they stayed hot the whole game.

Appreciate this insight. Haven't had time to watch on BIG10+ yet.

Yeah, I’m with you on that. It took a huge game from Taylor Jones. She’s really good, but has a game like this maybe one out of every five or so.
Yeah I've always really liked Taylor Jones, even since her Oregon State days. Idk if it's a chicken or egg situation but she always is battling injuries and always splitting time with another solid big. So her numbers like clockwork are 12 and 8 which are good but not great, and I always wonder if she played more minutes if they'd be better.
Overall, it was a good game. Tennessee is really good. They are deep, athletic, just a scary team. Im a bit worried about UConn dealing with their pressure and speed. Texas is interesting. A couple years ago when they lost to Stanford in the tournament, I think everyone was excited about their future, because of their two freshman cornerstones Rori Harmon and Aaliyah Moore. They both have been through injuries and I am pulling for them both cuz they seem to work hard and love the game. I do kinda think their ceiling is based on those two. Obviously Booker is their best player and although she can shoot them out of games I believe in her talent. I think they have so many supporting pieces. But Rori and Amo would have to get back to all conference levels imo for them to be a real threat.

Ikr

A significant minority of us state wide will always refer to that team from the dirty t as the kitties.

While Molly Miller is too diplomatic I suspect her players would say they declawed the kitties earlier this year. Likewise Loree Payne very classy would be too diplomatic but perhaps some of her players and my fellow flagstaffians would say the kitties need to change their litter box particularly after the thrashing we administered to them up at Rolle Activity Center last year.

As to the matchup between the 5 million and 3 million dollar coaches I suspect both of those coaches are far more successful than the 1.6 million dollar coach down in the dirty t..... Far more successful.

:)

Important game tonight at 9:00 EST for Oregon (after the SoCar-LSU matchup) in their quest to get to 20 wins and a tournament bid.
Pretty much a 50-50 matchup versus Indiana but at home in Eugene. A win would bring the Ducks to 15-5 overall and 6-3 in league. A loss pretty much precludes a 20 win season.

Difficult road games @MSU, Mich, Minnesota and Nebraska are pencilled in (by me) as likely losses. Another one is a nearly surefire loss to UCLA even though its a home game.

With a win tonight, though, the Ducks have possible wins versus Maryland, Washington, and Rutgers with a home court advantage. @ UW to end the season is another possible.

So to get to 20 things need to fall in line at home and maybe snatch a road win at Minnesota or Nebraska.

I figured SC would pull away in the 3rd qtr and they did. Still, closer than I expected. I thought SC by 15+.
When’s the last time SC won by single digits at home?

Maybe LSU is pretty good? I now give them the edge vs Texas.

LSU looked over rated to me today. I wasn’t really impressed. Their “star” players missed wide open shot after open shot while also playing ISO hero ball

SC plays as a TEAM

LSU played well in the 1st quarter, but there's a significant problem in their backcourt. Day-Wilson is good enough against most teams, but she is not prepared to lead them against a team like SC. Of course, not being able to buy a 3 really handed SC a huge defensive advantage. And they showed why they are the premier defensive team in D1. I'm not sure where to place them as an offensive force. Dawn said as much in her comments during the game, that they have to play dynamite defense because their offense isn't always great.

The imbalance in called fouls is also indicative. It wasn't unfair, not counting the phantom call for Morrow's 5th. It's just that LSU has to play a lot of help defense against a team like SC because they don't have a lot of front court size. This means they're often out of position and can't help but foul. By contrast, SC doesn't need to play nearly as much help defense and this means they are mainly in good position.

Also noteworthy were the blocks -- 6 by SC's front court and 5 by their guards. When the guards get that many blocks, it means they feel free to cheat on their defensive assignments. Also, a couple of blocks on LSU fast breaks made their guards look bad, weak decision making. Part of that is the overall team speed of SC, but part of it is just poor finishing.

Old school SEC slugfest in Columbia. SC brought out not their B game, but their C game. Everything played out in favor of LSU. LSU won the rebound battle, won the overall front court battle, won the (meager) 3pt battle, and the dynamic SC tandem of Edwards and Fulwiley had first half foul trouble...and still could not win.

SC won by 10 and controlled all of second half. The SC guards, particularly Raven Johnson and Fulwiley turned over LSU any time they had some momentum. The SC defense also pressured LSU into some terrible shooting - under 30% for the LSU stars.

Congrats to SC on a tough win and solid game plan vs LSU guards.

Interesting to me that LSU took 77 shots and SoCar took 62 and neither team reached 70 points.
Also interesting that SoCar took 26 FTs compared to 9 by LSU.
Was Joe Vaszily and/or Dee Kantner officiating? Asking for a friend.

The foul calling was ridiculous.

Despite that home whistle overall, the calls did not really impact result. SC missed free throws even let LSU hang around in 4th, winning margin could have been much worse.

At every important moment, SC had a steal or LSU found another way to turn it over.

Fouls even helped LSU early with Edwards on bench with 2. Edwards played well in 4th though, getting Smith, Morrow and FJ all to 4 fouls.

Shooting: Morrow 6-19, FJ 6-18, Williams 5-17 Gilbert 1-7 Day-Wilson 2-8:eek:

Maybe it's just me, but LSU is not a title contender with Day-Wilson at PG. They may be able to act as a spoiler, but that's about it. It's a shame, really, to see such a talented squad limited in this way. Also, Smith and Wolfenbarger are not strong enough to carry the front court. It's all on Morrow's shoulders.
