Well, that was a wild holiday week, eh? Kinda funny - AP poll says week 9, and ESPN says 10, which I find the latter more accurate, and now explains why in past years I was so confused doing my excel-a-palooza. Five t25 matchups this week.

Another Sunday coming up with a few interesting Top 25 matchups in the SEC and B1G conferences.
Also interesting that #5 Oklahoma vs #6 Kentucky is currently scheduled for SECN+. I guess there's also men's games on Sunday?

newest poll has UNC still ranked, State somehow getting less votes than Stanford, a team they just dragged by 30 points.
NC State likely won't crack the national rankings again until it has beaten a ranked team. Maybe wins over Louisville and UNC would do it; Reynolds Coliseum has been a house of horrors for the Cardinals in its last few trips to Raleigh. Unfortunately, State has 4 losses (3 of them to ranked teams and 3 of them of 5 points or less) and that plays a role in who the voters believes deserves a ranking.

I was thinking this morning that a 5-seed for the NCAAT might be the team's ceiling, given how the season has played out thus far from a national standpoint, and if that is the case, there's going to be a host 4-seed very unhappy that the Wolfpack Women stand in their way of reaching the Sweet 16. NC State won't be a typical 5-seed team, but that tough early schedule, and the bunch of frustrating close losses, left a mark.

In an oddly-parallel trajectory, Duke is heading in the same direction as NC State. Neither team resembles what it was just a few weeks ago.

Okay, where did Grace Sullivan come from? 28 tonight, averaging 23 for the season. 2 nondescript seasons at Bucknell, averaged 10 ppg last year for Northwestern, now she's Superwoman?
Finally got to watch her last night. Just looking at her stats I was thinking she may be playing her way into 2nd round or 3rd round of the draft. In watching her she is a very good player. Really soft touch and good mid range shooter. She had a couple of hook shots. So can play a bit back to the basket and then face up. She also got a steal and took it full court with ease. I will say she struggled a bit with Ava Heiden who I was really impressed with. She's not the most physical or athletically gifted player. But I liked watching Northwestern, they were highly competitive.

Pierre is a monster. My goodness. That being said. Duke > State.

She is a rebounding machine, for sure. And when you watch her, it's just effortless, like it is completely natural for her to go after the ball. I'm definitely glad she's wearing the Red and White this season.

The coach's poll is out and ND is still ranked (I mean what are we doing?), Duke getting 0 votes and State is behind Stanford getting only 4 votes.

I saw Talia Goodman post her top 25 and I respect her, but I also don't follow some of the logic in her top 25. I realize I'm a bitter fan of team not getting recognition, but if you pull up the resumes for teams like Ohio State, UNC, Ole Miss, Illinois, Tennessee, Princeton...I just don't really see it. Some of those teams have great records, but it's on the backs of beating a bunch of Q3 and Q4 teams. I'll give Goodman credit though, when fans of various teams comment on her post she typically responds with her thoughts. I just don't always agree!

I don't see the infatuation nationally with UNC, they beat a couple of mid majors and that's it. What's their best 2 wins of the year? Fairfield and S Dakota State? I mean, ok.

I think you mean, "what are they doing?". The list of voters are well respected coaches including Coach Ralph, Coach Fennelly, Coach Dillon to name a few.

How about this. In last week coaches poll, Duke received 14 votes and was 28th. Since that poll was released, Duke wins two games... Including beating ND by 14... And in this week's poll .. Duke has zero votes and ND is ranked #25.

I'm calling some of the votes "The Death of Expertise", which is also a book. It's unclear that the voters have both a deep and wide grasp of WBB these days. And if they are only voting based on what they saw in the prior week, then we have a lot of recency bias. I don't know how they are supposed to vote,. And I will scream this to the sky until my last day that polls shouldn't start until January, with the concurrence of conference play. In other words, with certain teams, the math ain't mathin'

Are you referring to the AP or the Coaches poll? The last few posts have been about the coaches poll. If it is the coaches poll, then I'm kind of perplexed considering who is on the list of voters which I noted in an earlier post.

Don't be perplexed. I lost the plot and thought it was an AP poll thing.

Maybe we should have a weekly coaches' poll thread?
Personally, I didn't know where it is located or when it comes out...also I don't like discussing it in the weekly games thread, but what do I know?

Apparently it's a day-to-day issue with Smith's knee. Considering the luck of other players, that's a positive, I think. 🤔

I am really puzzled by NC St. I just watched a replay of the game against Cal and was stunned by how slow and uninspired the Wolfpack looked against a pretty plodding Cal squad. On the plus side, Pierre occasionally looked energetic enough to dominate, and the action was slow enough that Qadence actually drove the lane a couple times. But this level of play does not bode well for March. Maybe it was just holiday doldrums. I hope this is the explanation. There’s enough team speed to play to a higher level.
