Week 1 11/4-11/10

Instead of a daily games thread we can have weekly. I realize Monday was a big deal because it was the official first day of the season and there were a ton of games.

Chicago St. has started their annual futility tour. 0-2 with a pair of blowouts already. While nobody expected them to hang w/ Iowa St., getting thumped by Butler by 30+ has to be disheartening.

I might check out BYU here in a little bit. Amari Whiting and Delaney Gibb were fairly highly rated recruits at one point. The well traveled Kemery Congdon (Martin) has been a solid player at times.

Post-Caitlin era has begun at Iowa. They can still score. At halftime.

Oops, my math is off. 87-45. That's a beat down. Maybe Butler is much improved, but they've been down for several years.

No Affolter for Iowa tonight, I assume she'll be a starter when she's available.

91-73 win over Northern Illinois. Balanced scoring, Olsen led the way w/ 19. All 5 starters in double figures and one more off the bench.

Kansas Jayhawks looked pretty decent. I am catching up on TCU's game from yesterday. Hailey Van Lith and Sedona look refreshed. For Hailey Van Lith a change of setting could be the best thing for her. Sedona wishing her all the best this season.

BYU looked decent, had a 16 point lead at the half against Idaho. Offense disappeared most of the second half, Idaho came back to tie it. BYU pulled it out though. Nice debut for Gibb. Led them with 17 points, had several big defensive plays late in the game.

Idaho is an in interesting story. New coach, first time as a head coach, and only 2 returning players from last year. Program is completely starting from scratch. 8 transfers and 3 freshmen. Looks like they could be competitive in the Big Sky. They were led by a player from my neck of the woods, but I've never heard of her. Hope Hassman from Maple Valley, WA. Was at Cal St. Fullerton as a Fr. and now at Idaho. She dropped 23 points on BYU.

Did Deja Kelly ever have a game shooting as efficiently as 9-13 (3-6 from deep) while she was at Carolina? Maybe the move to the other coast did her some good.

Looks like A&M squeaked out a win. 55-51 final score.

Looking at the box score, I'm wondering if Jordyn Jenkins will have another year of eligibility for UTSA. This is her 5th year, but she played in only 12 games last year. She's using her extra covid year, but if she is eligible for a RS for last season she could have one more.

Strack is flirting with a triple double for Kentucky. She might be one of the biggest transfer portal acquisitions that people don't really seem to be talking about.

Strack finishes w/ 15/13/8. The 8 assists isn't really what you'd expect from a 6-5 post player. Kentucky cruised past Northern Kentucky.

Was anybody familiar w/ Maye Toure at Rhode Island? I wasn't, but she looks like a real nice addition for Utah. Originally from France, looks like it took her a couple years to find her footing and then she was solid for URI the last 2 seasons.

I was watching some of Drake-St. Louis earlier. That was a close game heading toward the end of Q3. Suddenly Drake is up by 25. That got out of hand in a hurry.

Illinois beat #19 Florida St. 83-74. Is that our first upset of the season?

Indiana-Harvard going OT. Harvard jumped out to a big lead in Q1. Indiana caught up in Q2, then it was nip and tuck the rest of the way.
