Happy with the win but not sure of the outcome if Creighton shot better from 3. We desperately need Johnson back to compliment Karaban at the 4. Karaban is wearing down a little and has to play too many minutes. Johnson will provide much needed rebounding and rim protection. Hopefully he's getting close.

When will that be?

I am beginning to think he could end up a red shirt for the season. I would love to have him available and up to speed by end of season though to make a deep push in the tourny.

Hurley seems to put karaban on the other team’s best player…maybe to let Jackson freelance more (which could make it worthwhile..I’m not even criticizing ) but it puts karaban in a tough position as a freshman

Doesn't playing Clingan and Sanogo together do the same thing?
In some ways, yes.

After UConn, Sanogo's position will be the 4. Whenever AK starts being abused at the 4, Sanogo could ably take up that responsibility.

Maybe Johnson is more of what we need at the 4. I'll leave that assessment up to our vast array of armchair coaches.

He was very close 3 weeks ago according to many sources, even Hurley.

No. Johnson is an entirely different player than either of them. Freak athlete who can guard just about anyone if his BBIQ is improved. Much more limited offensively.
Agree until the last sentence. Around the rim, sure. But he’s a better shooter and ball handler than Clingan or Sanogo. Alex is giving his all, but he’s clearly worn down and it’s affecting the things he does well, his shooting is off. Opponents are targeting him on D, some tough matchups.

That’s a big if. Not to knock on Samson, Have you seen anyone improved BBIQ noticeably during the time of injury or lifetime? The better solution is really moving Alex Karaban to 3 position instead of 4. He will continue to be out matched and exploited against bigger, tougher team unless he muscles up.

Sure it wasn't close to being cleared to resume basketball activities not actually close to being back??

I'm prepping my Marquette scouting report and here's a direct quote from the first draft: If there were ever a game I’d love for Samson Johnson to be back, it would be this game. Prosper is a dangerous offensive forward who is a legit three-level scorer and Johnson’s length and athleticism would help limit Prosper’s upside more so than Karaban.

Yes we do. Need a defender/rebounder at the 4. No doubt.

Hope he can provide that.

Samson is another blade in the Swiss Army knife.

He isn't a be all, end all solution but he will give Karaban much needed rest and give Hurkey some mire room to tinker with lineup.

No fault of his own, but Karaban as a 6'8" 210lbs frosh can't physically match up against best 4's in BE.

AK is struggling defensively. Badly. Its causing a domino effect thats hurting the teams defense which has not been good recently. That being said its not all on him because our guards also cant stop the dribble drive. Its either a score or a foul. It seems the only guy that doesnt get burned is Diarra. Everyone else its a blow by and teams know this because X, Prov and now Crayton has done it. luckily they stink this year because we`d be looking up at 3 Ls in a row. This team is not in a good place right now.

Patiently waiting for Johnson to be healthy, get up to speed, and be part of the rotation. He will make us better on both offense and defense, used wisely by Hurley. I envision him being a little foul prone and playing thru some mistakes, but if we get him back sooner rather than later he'll give the team a nice boost.

The improvement would have come over the offseason though. So a better question is have you ever seen anyone improve their BBIQ from freshman to sophomore year? Which is unquestionably a yes

Yep. That traditional 4 piece is what we’re missing. We’re maybe a little too finesse right now. Taking too many 3s and not rebounding well.

It’s pretty insane to say this team is “not in a good place right now.”

Most of this board was talking about this exact same Creighton lineup as if they were the Golden State Warriors two months ago. UConn is 15-2 and ranked 4th in the country and just beat the same team that most people on here were anointing as the best team in the league not that long ago. What exactly would a “good place” look like to you?

It’s such a tedious rehab process and one that is slowed or paused with any setback. It’s not like Dre’s finger, which they could get to a “good enough” state, tape it up, and throw him out there. Samson’s handled it well, but I don’t know if everyone appreciates how tough the mental part has been. He worked so hard over the summer and was ready- and then he has to sit and watch for months.

Add to that, as I keep trying to remind people, that like Sanogo he’s an African kid who hasn’t played long. So he is likely to make greater leaps in understanding the game than a kid who has played it from childhood, just like Adama did.

any idea on a timeline? Having him back for the Xavier game at home would be huge
