I was quite impressed with how hard Wagner played. The Hurley brothers certainly get their kids to play their asses off, that's for sure. He was constantly telling waving them to pick up our guards and press them as early as possible.I'm not.
Think about it. The Wagner guards were giving Shabazz a good working over all game. They forced 6 turnovers on him alone. They applied 40 minutes of close-contact D.
If you put in the walk-on, he gets annihilated.
It's like D-Bev last year - the guy played great against big guards, and turned it over regularly against small ones.
Allen has a really high dribble from what I can see - needs to get his hands closer to the floor.
It was evident that JC simply didn't have a lot of confidence in Allen to handle that type of pressure. He must feel he's going to get Boatright back sooner than later. If that's the case, he doesn't need to throw Allen into a situation he's not ready to handle, but on the other hand if Ryan is no where close to returning this was a game to see how Allen would handle this type of pressure. JC clearly knows a lot more what his players are capable of and how soon Ryan is likely to return than any of us.
If Bazz was in fact sick, then huge props to him for shouldering the ball handling load most of the night. He did look gassed by the end of the game, though played at a very high level throughout. He is such a fun player to watch. I love how after making a mistake and getting an earful from JC, he simply takes his lumps, sits down and is ready to go right back out there. He is one of the most fearless guards to have played at UConn and he's only 2 games into his sophomore season.
