We are the reigning champions of college basketball. We are the defending champs until (if) we lose in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Sit back. Take it in. Enjoy it today. But, on your summer vacation there will be something to remind you. On that day, remember, we are still champs. Every day single day for the rest of the year. Every breath you take. Every move you make.

All the joy and agony, nerves and insanity, this is the payoff. This is the reward you reap for the endless hours of arguing on the Boneyard. For being the true hardcore. For living and dying with every game. Sometime in the next year, for no reason at all, you will get one of those wonderful little endorphin rushes. A little gift courtesy of the Huskies.

Will be interesting. I remember clips of the preseason practices. Emphasis on "Speed of Play." The practices were exacting. Greenberg spoke to seeing how intense they were and how it translated. Let's see if they can grind like that again. Calhoun spoke about the year after and how different it often was, but playing for Calhoun must have been very very different than playing for Hurley.

Different times too. Some announcers talked how Hurley was young at heart cause he was enjoying himself with the team. Throwing confetti. Clowning around. Wearing his hat backwards. That one killed me. As most guys around 50, that is pretty normal. It’s way looser now. He’s going to get a ton of looks from outside players. It’s a fun campus. Fun style of play. Great exposure. And this year unlike others it really feels like the nation was happy to see us back on top. Like basketball was really missing something without us.

The season after a chip is extremely enjoyable. Every opponent circles the date when they play you, most of your games get prime tv exposure. The announcers kiss your butt all year, every game. Bring up your chip run and all the players big moments in it. Talk about your team 80% of the time every game, unless you're playing Duke. So much so that the other team's fans get salty. They make excuses for you if you happen to lose, citing your championship pedigree and metal. Etc and so forth, yada, yada, yada.

Great times.

There is a clear goal ahead…be the team that passes Duke in the pantheon of all-time NC winning program and ties North Carolina….then Kentucky…then someday, in a time into the future when the next generation of insufferable whiners, wise-guys, malcontents, contrarians, and congenital optimists has taken over as BYers…UCLA
