What we need is for this discussion to move from the Boneyard to Storrs, to the State Capitol, and to the donor meetings. This needs to convert from an athletics discussion to an economic discussion. If folks in those places do not see what is happening to the program, the school, and the state then the drum beat will end soon, but not in the way you want.

You do realize why we are in these articles every time, right? We are the worst FBS football program that actually has a fan base. If you write articles about Old Dominion, Buffalo and Bowling Green, nobody clicks on it. We are constantly being trolled for clicks. This forum is one of the best in college sports. That’s why they do it, people like us can’t resist clicking on it, and there is a comparatively large number of us compared to what the dink schools have. Additionally, fans from Cuse and RU love to read it and pile on too. Crap, Big East basketball schools still read it and pile on. It is all for attention. You’ve got guys justifying why schools that just started playing FBS in the Sunbelt should continue on while a school with great facilities, a big alumni base, big time basketball and a Fiesta Bowl along with many other bowls should quit. That’s called trolling. No need to argue it or even discuss it.

This is fake news at it's best.
It feeds the minds of people who want to believe this is the path.
What it doesn't do is provide any facts. 'Everybod wins!' yeah!

Human nature is to look at the now. A friend of mine just texted how bad Wichita State is in BB.
Everyone wants to win now. If not, then it's the end of the world, I'm taking my ball and I want to go home mentality.

10-15 years ago, Army football was in a worse predicament but the questions were the same. We can't compete and shouldn't we drop down to FCS or maybe D2?. Uconn isn't the USMA, but if Army can find a way to turn the corner I have to think there is a lesson here for everyone.

Attached article from 2003 when Army went 0-13 (states that was a new record at the time), and people were chirping about how college football has passed by Westpoint. There was a lot of this and other programs have gone through the same thing.

Past couple seasons Army has proven they can compete with the big boys. And Uconn will find a way too.

"Just about every program, even the most resource-starved, is one good hire away from cracking .500. And there are benefits to FBS that don’t easily show up on a balance sheet. "

Its hard to argue against numbers, yet we consistently see resource poor schools fielding football teams at The FBS Level. Clearly there is an intrinsic value in having an FBS team that goes way beyond the balance sheet. If not then how can The Sunbelt, MAC, and Conference USA even exist?

This is total unadulterated BS. Instead of asking the hard questions such as: How it is that college football became a story haves and have nots? What dynamics are at work to make college football loose competitive parity? What are the impacts of networks, big money and anticompetitive conference and bowl alliances?

Instead, it’s time to start thinning heard. It’s like telling a starving person it’s their fault for not eating more food.

Was there a time when it wasn’t have and have nots? If anything TV increased parity the last couple of decades.

The TV revenue parity (such as it was) is over, and just might be what motivated the "Power Five" to take the actions that have lead to four of them having their own networks, the bowl alliances and other factors that now leave the non-Power Five in the dire circumstances they face with vastly lower revenues.

25 years ago there were 10 programs. Now there are like 30. Sure bama and clemson are sucking
up all the ‘titles’ but we are still a long way from the old days. i dont like where the line is drawn either but there are still way more relevant programs than the old days.

Pretty much the only positive news from the Men's side of the AD is baseball these days. Pretty depressing otherwise. Soccer is down, football a joke, basketball down but with hope, hockey worse than when it moved to Hockey East....keep waiting for something...anything.

It’s about the concentration of dollars, the exclusion of teams from any viable access to meaningful bowls, denial of access to CFP, a system thatimits OC scheduling, etc..

There is more access meaningful bowls than ever.

I get being mad about UConn’s plight but look at wikipedia sometime.

The information is quite readily available regarding the system’s ties ins, the revenue distribution disparities, etc. Being relegated to Ted’s Cheesburger Bowl in some craphole with 5,000 in attendance is not access. You’re arguing separate but equal.

30 programs? Who?

In any given year, there are maybe 10 schools that have a chance to win the NC: Bama, LSU, FL, Auburn, Clemson, OSU and maybe 1 from Texas, OK, Mich or FSU.

The past 5 years has been won by Clemson, Alabama or OSU.

With the guaranteed money to those schools that list isn't getting bigger any time soon unless the model changes.

Maybe on the planet you guys inhabit schools like Wisconsin and Washington and USC and Virginia Tech and Stanford and Texas A&M and Georgia and plenty of others aren’t relevant but that seems a bit contradictory to what happens on TV.

If you only care about who wins the NC you’ve been following the wrong sport all along.
