Sorry, I haven’t looked through this whole thread. Has anyone heard anything about a Hartford parade? I hope it’s Sunday because Saturday’s weather looks terrible

It’s 11:37pm and I still can hardly believe it.

After some thought, as happy as I am for Paige, Azzi, and Aubrey to come back and win it all after the injuries, I think the person I’m happiest for is Caroline. Her injuries were so debilitating that no one would have blamed her if she had stepped away and never played a game again. But through it all she persevered. Before her injuries sidelined her, she was the shining beacon in some of UConn’s toughest short-handed games. True embodiment of UConn spirit. I am so happy for her.

Tears running down my face What a journey over the past 3 years I am so-o happy. All the adversity, the pain, the injuries. OMG Thank you UCONN
Just got back into town, and looked at the score. Praise God!!!

With 24 for both Azzi & Sarah, plus Paige getting 17, they outscored USC 65 - 59. Bodes well for next year with the two top scorers are back. Need to have the "Who's the third player for next year in the new 'Big 3.'

Time to get #13 NC this time next year!!!

Go Huskies!!!

I think the only time we have ever lost when Azzi played well was that game in Hartford against Villanova. No paige. Tons of players injured on our team. Siegrist, Olsen, and Garzon killed us that game. And that’s the only one I can remember.

Sometimes I feel Ashlynn does not get enough praise for her aggressive play and toughness. I look forward to watching her in action next year as a starter.
Both Ash and KK were major contributors who recognized their roles and poured their heart and soul into them. Ash created soooo many extra possessions for this team and, with KK, altered the defensive intensity markedly. The duo not only spelled teammates for rest and foul management - they added dimensions.

Azzi played excellent defense today. So did Ash KK Kaitlyn Ice Jana and Aubrey. And much of their efforts don’t show up in any stats. Their hustle discouraged passes or shots or back cuts. One example: Azzi tipped a pass out of bounds to eat up enough clock to prevent a buzzer beater from Tessa. Another: Ash tore away a few rebounds but she also cut off passing lanes and headed off drives by moving her feet. It’s these little things that you’d never notice merely by looking at a box score.

Paige and Sarah played great defense too. But much of what they do actually shows up in the box score. They don’t need a special shout out.

"They played harder than us," Fulwiley said. "They played like they wanted to win the national championship. I think we didn't. They had more grit than us. They got loose balls; they ran their stuff. They didn't back down from us. We came out on the same level, but we didn't keep it up."

Women’s basketball Mt Rushmore, yes, all college coaches, all sports, no

Dorrance won 20 NCAA soccer championships with No Carolina, including an amazing 9 in a row
Where does this stop. Lombardi. What about the Trinity guy with Squash. might have to open it up for high school - Bobby Hurley. Good off-season thread

Mount Rushmore coaches any sport college or pro: Geno Auriemma Cael Sanderson John Wooden Phil Jackson
Many others could be mentioned if we're talking any sport: Russ Rose (Penn State volleyball), Vince Lombardi, Anson Dorrance (NC soccer, who someone mentioned in an earlier post, who had 21 NC's), Red Auerbach, etc.

Starting with Ark.St and finishing with SC, UConn beat their opponents by 197 points total.
And only one game in the tournament did our opponent reach 60 points!!!
And better yet, after our loss to TN, only that same team reached 60 points!!!!!!! This includes both games against SoCar!!!! DEFENSE WINS GAMES!!!!!

Congratulations to my favorite team in all of sports! This was the best birthday present I could've asked for. Thank you UCONN WBB for making it extra special. I'm sad now though of the daunting 7 months until next season begins.

I'm not crying, you're crying!!:D This has to be the most gratifying moment for Geno and the coaching staff. When everyone else said he was past his prime, when SC and LSU started to ascend up the wbb ladder, when we had more bodies injured than healthy, when PB's legacy was being questioned, Geno summoned the basketball gods of yesteryear and showed EVERYONE that there's still something left in the tank! I have never been more emotional for a NC victory than today and I have witnessed all 12! I believe this win has given Geno the energy to stay at least 5 more years! he is the real GOAT!!
You really encapsulated the journey of 12 so very well. Now I’m as happy for you as I am for Paige, Geno and CD. You’re crying, we’re all crying, it‘s the most joyful cry of them all. And yes, Geno is the goat.

So happy for the whole team, Geno, CD, and the coaches, but I'm especially happy for Paige. She could've turned pro last year, but she chose to come back and try to get the one thing that had eluded her through all her injuries and her teammates'.

The team should be in good hands next year with Azzi, Sarah, KK, Ash, Jana, Ice, and a sophomore jump from the freshmen. Can't wait to see what they do.
Excellent points. In retrospect, the journey of this season started with Paige’s decision to return.

awesome job UConn. congrats BYers.
Did anyone feel like Dawn Staley gave up pretty early? I don't think she stood up once after a certain point in the 3rd quarter.
I don’t think she literally gave up because it’s not in her DNA. She initially was working the refs pretty hard, but UCONN kept pounding them. She tried the refs one ore time, but when the ref responded to her to…check the books (for foul calls)…she realized that there was no foul disparity and quickly pivoted to her seat. Dawn isn’t stupid and knew that while bad calls can impact a close game…that this wasn’t that type of game. I mean NONE of her starters reached double digits.

Congrats, UCONN! Well deserved. Definitely the best team this season. Sad for our team, but happy for Paige and UCONN.
That is very kind of you. Thank you for the compliments!
As for the teams, SCar has several players returning next year, so you guys should be okay. Yes, this loss stings right now, but I have no doubt that your team will be champions in the near future.
