Baylor's Richards named top defender by WBCA

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association has named Baylor's DiDi Richards its Division I Defensive Player of the Year.

It's well-deserved. I only saw her a handful of times this year, but I was really impressed.

She is able to successfully match up defensively with quite a few players. The only problem she appears to have his with shorter very quick players off the dribble. Her long legs, which give her an advantage in most other matchups become a liability then. That, however, is something that can be mitigated with more experience against that type of player.

I could probably just watch the replay to find this out, but was it Didi that basically shut down (or at least made it extremely difficult) on Ionescu in last year’s NCAA Tournament matchup?

Yep. Part of Sabrina's unfinished business was a possible rematch with Didi.

Richards is terrific though I think I would've gone with Boston for overall impact.
